I used totes for 20 years and switched to milk crates 3 years ago. I can put 25 1. stoploss traps in each tote. I have 7 totes for stoploss and 3 for 1.5 coils. I used to hang them most of the year and put in totes. Now when cleaned, tuned I put them in crates and leave them there. I would suggest don't put any plywood in the bottom. Let them drain. I use mine after the line is out to put rats in and there is no water in the bottom when full of rats.
I have been able to find all the milk crates I need for $4-$5 each.

One concern I see is people worried about the chains falling through. I simply wrap the chain and or cable around the trap, tuck the end and or ground anchor in. It works really good, and I still get the draining advantage of the crates.

I use the yellow lid totes for storage and then I'll pull out the milk crates during season

I store all my tools and toys inside. To me traps are no different.

I have a room in my shop dedicated to trapping....freezers, pelt board hangers, etc. One end of that room I built shelves for gear storage. I like my trapping equipment where I can get to what I need...without moving something...

Not having the pleasure of living without neighbors much less neighbors you can trust. I choose to keep my gear inside where I know it's safe and won't run off.

Common sense is a not a vegetable that does well in everyone's garden.

I hang all my canine gear outside, I move it down in the trees a couple hundred yards from my house and dogs after it is prepped for the season. When the season starts I will gather up a couple totes full and they will stay in the totes until they are set. When I start to run low on gear in the totes I will refill them.

That being said, I have some coyote traps that haven't been used in years, and they are dyed, waxed and stored in totes. Have been for quite a few years, but gear that is used every year gets hung outside. I have a bunch of beaver gear hanging inside the shop, and a bunch of marten traps that were also hanging in the shop until I boiled them up the other day and put them in a couple totes in preperation for the season. The non-canine traps are often stored inside the the shop, or even hung in my dog kennels; because I'm not concerned about them picking up odors.

Mine hang in my garage all off season out of the elements and they work well. Not an issue on scent control. They get a fresh turn up and wax each season.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.
