Fort Niobrara National Wildlife Refuge is east of town here. No gates to close even so they tied a piece of red tape across the road when the gubment "shut down". Soon it was gone.

Life ain't supposed to be easy.

I don't know about guards but at the park I was working at we were told to barricade the entrances to the campgrounds, leaving enough room for the campers already there to get by after we told them all services were being shut off and they had to leave by a certain time that afternoon(they were happy about that),then we were told we were all laid off till further notice. We were off for about 2 weeks ,told to return back to work ,when we got back we were told to take care of our equipment that day and when we left that afternoon we were laid off for the season(we were seasonals, our lay off date was about due anyway). Then we got a check for the 2 weeks we were laid off, just liked we worked those weeks.Nothing but a big farce

The Post Office will stay open because it is self funded.

I watched a bit of the impeachment inquiry hearings today and couldn't help but notice the only thing Democrats were interested in discussing was the shutdown. It's always fear mongering and it usually works.

Essential workers will work regular schedule without pay, but will be fully back paid once funding is approved. Nonessential workers will be furloughed, will not report to work and will be fully back paid for there regularly scheduled hours once funding is approved. This language is in a constitutional law passed in 2019. Looks like I have a paid vacation coming on Monday morning when I get my furlough letter from my boss!

I've always thought when there's a government shutdown due to the legislators not doing their jobs we should get the opportunity to elect new ones to replace them at that time.

And if the government is shut down shouldnt I get to keep the money going for taxes?

Makes sense to me. If I don't do my job I'd get fired and replaced. Same should go for these clowns.

Not every federal employee gets a "paid vacation" as it has been put. I'm one of those essential employees that will be forced to work without pay. Yes, that is exactly what it is. We got back pay last time, but for us it was 6 weeks between checks. When the shutdown was over, the Feds didn't issue a check right away. They added the back pay onto the next pay period. We will still have mandatory overtime (more so than usual) and still face the dangers of our work without knowing when we will get our next check. I mean, it's not like we have bills to pay or a family to look out for. Gas is still $3.69/gal, but I guess my truck can run on IOU's. This is BS!

It BS for sure ! Short sighted, big ego people trying to make a name for themselves so they can run for higher office. It's a losing proposition and they should know it by this time.
How many times do they have to do the same thing and get kicked to the curb ? It's like Lucy with the football.

So does anyone know what exactly was in the bill that just recently passed to kick the can down the road for another 45 days?

Can’t find anything online yet. Must have been some sweet deals made…

Seems to be a comon thing these days. Sure sucks to work without a check at the end of the week. But you will get your pay. Like working construction they have layoffs and don't know when they will have a job to go back to.. so they have to save money for when they are layed off. It's seems like it would go with the job. Knowing it's likely and planing for it accordingly. Emergency funds are not a new thing. Just people don't seem to be able to save money these days. Part is the inflation, but a large part is not living within their means.

I'm no high roller at $28 & some change as a production worker and I work some overtime yet can go for over 6 months without any income comming in. And if no income was coming in I would make a bunch of cuts and extend that out longer. That's based on my current weekly spending. In 7 months that should be pushed out over 2x once some payments are flipped into income.

How about those federal benefits? See every job has its good and bad either ist worth it or you move on to something else. ( my daily struggle of traveling for work is a good example.) It sucks yet I keep doing it because the pay and benefits far exceed what I found close to home. So I keep doing it and working on my exit plan...
I think it's bull they won't pass a yearly budget each year instead of the stop gaps. It's bs for many families. Yet at the same time it's part of the package that goes along with the job so plan accordingly.

One will never notice a difference, unless its months, thats never happened, it never really shuts down there is always someone holding things together !

Should one be ready, absolutely, should any one be really worried I doubt it !!
