A much different question... When I crack open a lure loaded with castor or get it on my hands it actually smells good to me. What other lure ingredients or oils actually smell good to you?

I like several of the mint/birch types used in beaver lures.

Amber oil. I put it in my marten/cat lure.

At one time I had about ten ounces of Civet musk that came from Pete Rickard that had a real nice floral aroma. Johnny Thorpe gave me some muskrat musk that came from Walter Arnold that had a real nice, sweet pleasing odor. John also gave me a little bit of Tonquin tinctured from pod that I really enjoyed. Those three were my favorites.

Castor, trace amounts of skunk essence, tonquin (although not to the extent many people describe, where they can't stop smelling it) and yes... Beaver tail oil. I thought I was weird on that last one, but I see I'm in good company. wink

I like Lovage, Civet, Lavender, Valerian among a few others, but those smell good to me. I also like cat essence cause it smells exactly like a big old Tom to me.

I find muskrat castors have a pleasing smell.
