Do you ever stir the mixture at all?

I don’t. I just siphon the oil off the top. The sludge left in the bottom seems to have more attraction than the oil on my coyotes

Today is going to be the hottest day of the year. I’m siphoning of BTO and gator oil this afternoon while it’s the most liquid. The gator oil is about tapped out. I’ll try that sludge this winter.

No stir for me, but I do like too shake the five gallon bucket and watch the air bubbles rise to the top of the oil.
What I wonder about, is there any good use for the Rank smelling White Water layer just under the oil layer? When rendering BTO.

I don't think the water has as much attraction as the oil, but I have used the sludge and the spent tail pieces as bait. I usually grind up the tail pieces once they're not producing oil. I have also used 5-gallon buckets of old tail pieces as draw stations. Once set up I hang snares on trails.

Wormbobskey Thanks.
Yes I ended up doing about the same thing, got rid of the rank smelling white water. Each 5 gallon bucket yielded about 1 gallon of oil.
Then I pulled out the better chunks with no bones and ground them up. They were still pretty tuff to grind even after rendering all summer.
Everything left over was dumped in a large pot and cooked at a low temp. until it was a Oily Paste. Then I skimmed this off, about 2 gallons worth.
I know the OIL is a good ingredient. Now I need to test the other two?

The ground tail chunks should find some value with you! Enjoy this learning, I know I sure am!
