I’m putting up drywall today by myself, 4 - 4 X 12s and 6 - 4 X 8s. I have a couple ideas in mind but how do you experts handle a task like this?

Rent a drywall lift, for ceilings. Man-handle the walls. Get a few screws/nails started, (for walls), and up it goes.
For bottom row on the walls, either buy a drywall "kicker", or use a flatbar for levering/lifting the sheet up and a dowel, hammer handle, chisel or such as a fulcrum.

When working on the ceiling, do not support drywall with your head. Friend had to have neurosurgery on neck from doing that.

I bought a lift, but I had a lot to do, gave it to my son in law when done.

This guy. That is how I would do it if I couldn’t hire.

Hanging rock is a lesson in efficiency vs. self destruction.

Had some issue.
12' cathedral ceiling.

So went with T&G pine on ceiling, drywall on walls, lol, solved drywall lift issue.

All by myself, so.still.was a pain.

You can build a " T" out of 2X4s the right height and push the sheets up, and hold them in place with the "T" while its wedged to the ground.

A lot of bald sheetrock hangers from holding sheets on their heads.

Years ago I got my start in the electrical trade wiring apartment buildings. One time I watched a sheet rocker hang 12x4 pieces of sheet rock overhead by himself. A contortionist. No lift, just him putting the rock in place, holding it with his back and shoulders and nailing it in. It looked painful but the guy was good. I ask him why he didn't get help and he said he made more money doing it by himself.

The same crew had a woman sheet rocker that carried her baby with her on the job in a bassinet. Not bad looking as I remember; tough looking but pretty. I remember she complained she had back problems. lol. Come feeding time she would breast feed the baby right there on the job. That was the 70s.

Have not hung a single pc of wallboard for over 30 years and it will longer than that before I do again.

You are on your own.

Never argue with a fool - they will drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience.

I’m a living testament to this… I hung/finished drywall for 25 years,, 4x12 sheets of 5/8 on the ceilings,, the boss I had didn’t believe in a drywall jack,, said it was cutting in on time to hang the rock,, just grab it and go,,, today I suffer from cervical stenosis,,, you might not realize the damage at first,,, but it will eventually get you,,, or hopefully you get lucky and you dont. It has nothing to do with being a wuss.. it’s how our bodies tried to deal with the damage we inflicted on ourselves. It has nothing to do with being tough,, work smart. I’m 53 years old and I’m an old man now because I thought I was tough

I used the "T,s" when doing my ceilings, but it was only 4x8 x3/8.... I wouldn't want to do the big stuff by myself anymore...

There's a reason you make money...it's to pay the drywall guy.... grin
