What do you use in the fall to spray your lawn to control next years weeds?

I have been using Trimec. That has done a decent job on dandelions and clover but not the thistles.

I usually use about 3/4 gallon on the acreage .

Always sprayed pre-emergent in Feb and again in March for crabgrass and dandelions.

Grazon Next is used here in grassy areas where you don’t want other things growing.

Was born in a Big City Will die in the Country OK with that!

I use 2-4-D brands in spring or fall. Due to very dry weather plants are not growing well around here and that may reduce the effect. Typically fall really works good on bi-annuals as they really try to store energy in the fall for winter.

I have never done a pre-emerge application, so I have no thoughts on the success with those applicaitons.

why do you spray dandelions if you have bees?

Weeds that seed themselves each year can be reduced with late winter pre-emergent. Crab grass comes to mind.

Weeds like nut sedge grow from rhizomes, I think. They require different treatments. Once read that nut sedge was the number one weed in the world.

If I was to kill the weeds in my " cough lawn " I would end up with a patch of plain dirt.
Having said that, I went and got some string for the weed whacker and " mowed " some of it today, so the chickens and geese can see where they are going.

Let's go Brandon

I haven’t raised bees in better than 10 years. Not since I became allergic to bee stings.

Just remember to read the labels. Grazon or any product with Tordon (picloram) in it is not registered for use to broadcast on lawns and is restricted use. Kids, pets, adults all play on lawns and toddlers always have their hands in their mouths. Barbeques, and picnics occur there where food gets spilled and eaten by critters and kids. So check labels before use is a good habit to get into. As far as weeds a simple I.D. of what your pest plant is should steer you to a product that will work. The life cycle of your pest will dictate when to apply your product as its worthless and wasteful to try to kill summer annuals right now but its a good time to apply certain products for winter annuals, bi-annuals and some perennial weeds. Most thistles are summer or winter annuals but the tougher perennial ones like Canada, Sow Thistle, etc. require repeated treatment if they have been allowed grow over summer. The old saying with Canada Thistles is if they have been there 20 years, it will take 20 years of diligence to eradicate them. I have an old steer lot that I garden in and I have no-tilled it for about 15 years but every other year a few Canada thistles will germinate in one spot or another and I treat them but that seed lives on a lot longer than folks realize. ..................the mike

Simple go to Walmart right now. They have everything clearanced in garden section. Get the weed b gone or what ever brand goes on garden hose . Spray it twice one week apart following instructions. Which means below 85 degrees. Put 100 lbs for 3/4 of an acre of 19/19/19 fertilizer. Then 100 lb per same of PELLETIZED LIME. If lot of weeds rent a power seeder and over seed it day after a rain. Do the same in late April or may

Unless your far south the February spraying is a waste of money. Listen closely DEPENDS ON WHERE YOU LIVE. Wait on the pre emergent until mid April Too soon and it is gone during dog days and crabgrass spreads rampant . Just telling you what I do . Your money your lawn

beeman wait until it frost once or twice then spray your yard. The plants are trying to store food in the roots and you will see better results.

Everyone want to spray to early and be done.

Bunch of so called trappers and woodsmen with paved drives.sidewalks, lawns full of chemicals, city water/sewer.....Pfft. Dandelion greens are the first spring greens we eat. The lambs Quarters and Purslane are soon to follow. Do ya'll let your kids and pets walk or play on that treated grass? Run off concerns?

you're only allowed so many sunrises... I aim to see every one of them!

grand kids , neighbor kids dogs everyone plays in my yard. No run off when applied with garden hose . I won't let them on it for 2 days afterwards. It dries on the plants and is absorbed thru the roots. Don't spray if giving rain. That amount of fertilizer run off is good for the ecosystem.

The comment about wanting weeds everywhere sounds like some one that doesn't want to spend the money to control them...

Problem with that is some plants go dormant and the spray won't effect them.
