Got up with full intensions of going to call coyotes, but pigs showed up on camera as I was on the way. Good for me, bad for them. Ended up shooting 6 and finding 3. I didn’t put much effort into the small ones when they ran in the thick thick stuff. Found blood and had heard their death squeals. I’m surprised the manager didn’t get called or LEO’s show up with all the shooting. It sure will be nice when the ATF decides to approve and send my tax stamp!

I’ve learned when shooting pigs in the dark, just be still and quiet and they’ll return. The sow and smaller pig dropped on the spot. The other big pig ran across the road and I shot and lost it thinking it would keep going straight across. It wasn’t until daylight I found blood and that joker made a hard right in the brush and basically ran 30yds beside me. I found blood and trailed it until I found it. He made it all of about 80yds maybe.

I hauled what was near the stand to the buzzard pile and left the rest as they’re far enough away to not deter the deer coming in. It was a great morning! [Linked Image]

Way to go WB!
It's a good thing we don't neighbor tho because I eat the crap out of those little bitty pigs. The meat is basically sweet and needs a huge amount of jalepeno or pepper corns to balance it out. I only takes a few minutes to dress and then process them because it stays to warm down here to hang them very often.

You been tearin em up and I say hats off to you. If the wardens do come around the land owns are likely to chase them off and tell them you are the best thing since sliced bread

No thanks, too hot. I am too busy right now and cant break loose. Its a boar - no thanks. I even had someone tell me one time - oh, I wanted a white one. They all go in the bone yard now. You kill hogs when you can - not when it is convenient for others.

I hear you. You'd think it would be easy to give away free food. But if it ain't cooked, hot and on a plate in front of them most folks ain't interested.

Back when I kept a garden I'd tell folks to come pick what they wanted. Very few takers.

Very few folks down here eat them nasty, disease-ridden things.

Cant give em away.

A feed sack full or 7 dust or a spray bottle with 15% bleach in a spray bottle are needed for little pigs but I don't let that slow me down. Our deer are the same way.

Scalding works best but like yall are sayin, no planning ya kill hogs whenever ya can.

To those with no hogs, everyone wants them.
We have kept a few during winter months. And by kept, I mean backstraps and maybe hams. Deer I have people on a waiting list, hogs on the other hand you can’t give away. They along with coyotes are invasive species and no one really cares how or when you kill them, as long as you do.
I get up every morning at 0500 to just go to the woods to either try and call in coyotes, or hope a camera goes off with pigs on the feed. I get paid for time and pigs killed. Plus I’m running a few sets out there as well. I like other places, you make a catch and won’t find a track within 300yds afterwards, lol.
We had a big wig dove hunt this afternoon so I’ll be scanning the dove fields for the next couple of mornings trying to catch coyotes out there trying to find birds no one found.

Winter or Summer? If summer it says a lot about Alabama folks, lol. When you can sneak in on them just by your nose alone, I ain’t eating it. Heck I have enough of a problem getting folks to help me load them. No one even wants to ruin their gloves by touching them.
If y’all are ever down this way, shoot me a PM and if I kill any I’ll call y’all up and give you everything I shoot. I’ll even donate my coons, possums, and coyotes for y’all to skin, flesh, and dry. That right there should pay your gas expenses for the trip.

what Savell said--- we would put them boned out in a cooler with ice and water for a day or two-----keep draining off the discolored water and add ice and water (not town treated water) a guy on the southern border shared that with me years ago and they ate good--- cant let them sit in the sun and get hot before you work on them------ lot better eating than a dadgum old deer lol

Do you Kansans and Texans think us true Southerners havent tried EVERY way possible to eat these dang pineywoods rooters?

Sausage is about it...and that ain't real good.

BTW....pour a liter or two of Sprite soft drink in the cooler with the ice and pork...it'll help some.

Most people in lousiana won't eat the boars either and I'm always glad to take them. Curious how many people who say boars are nasty have removed all the glands before they process or cook. Also I ice them and drained as said previously

If I ever lose my job and have to sell my truck for gas money I might consider it. I’ll eat the fool out of deer but y’all can have all the wild pigs y’all want.
I won’t post anymore since some seem to be offended by my feeding the buzzards.

WB you just keep doing you. I like seeing them piled up myself. I really enjoy good pork but I’ve tried to cook the wild ones and I’m not saying they are not edible if you are real hungry but they are definitely not the same pork you are used to. The old timers who ran hog claims and sold shoats in the fall/winter for eating would always cut the young males and pen the ones up they intended to butcher and feed them out. It was essential to get them off the range and in a pen for awhile to be able to market them.

Would like to try some of that pig meat.

Seems like a waste of good meat protein?
