Do you or how do you change the lube in the transaxle? My machines are 10, 15 and 17 years old. what lube do you use? I am getting worried about the quality and quantity of lube in them. They must have used most of it up. One is the greatest tractor that I have ever had, it takes a beating, a toro lx465, i have been told it is made by MTD but I do not know that as a fact. The 10 year old is a Husky 22v46, it is ok, the deck is horrible to change = lots of little parts to loose but it runs good. I did a complete deck job on it and had to have some welding done on the straps that lift it up as their weld did not attach to the deck itself. It runs but. And the newest to me but the oldest is a JD 54 inch deck that was rebuilt but a dealer it is ok. So how do these guys get their lub changed?.......jk

Google and YouTube are your best bets if you don't have the maintenance manuals.

A lot of them are not made to be serviced.

I have a wheelhorse from the mid-70's. I have owned it for the last 30 years. I only changed the trans fluid once because I had to take it apart to swap out one of the axles.
Other than that if its up to level I wouldn't worry about it unless it was milky or in some other way obviously bad.
Just run it.
I tend to think that we as Americans tend to overthink alot of this stuff. I'd bet that the vast majority of lawn tractors never get the lub changed in the transaxle and it never effects them.
If you really think it has to be changed check mfg recommendations if that info isn't to be found use 80-90 gear lub and run it for another 10-20 years.

I can say if it’s a one speed forward with reverse, it may be bentonite clay type grease. It does dry out after years. Most transaxle are sealed, so you would need to split or small hole and squeeze the grease. Seal with a good RTV.
