That's a mink. Look at how wide the tail of the otters are at the base in the other pics.

The original pic is a side view,no vertical taper on an otter tail, just lateral.Especially on a small otter. Also you never see mink drag their tail like the otter in the pic.

Otter tail are very large dia at the butt area with a sharp taper to the tip, That's gotta be a Mink.

Trapper friends there is probably not a day I do not see an otter and mink in real life I assure you that is an otter. Both otter and mink are really cool animals to observe. Once I was looking to seine minnows and watched otters trap them in a cove. I did leave after filling my minnow bucket. Perch are running now and we always leave a couple scraps to make sure the mink and otter visit. In fact just checked the forecast and its a fishing day!

Well, if you use the deer for reference and he looks like he has about a 19 inch spread just outside his ears and is in the background compared to the mink being in the front in the photo. I think the mink could fit inside the Deers antlers, so I’m thinking that mink this bout 17 inches body length 6’’ tail at best, which would put it outside of the antlers like it looks like already. it appears bigger in the photo just because the distortion of the photo even if the log is 10 inches wide that puts the mink in about 17 body yeah, big Mink but not an otter.

That deer puts it all in perspective. Its clearly a mink.

Here is a mink-note length of tail in relation to body. The OP pic the tail is the same length as shoulders to rump. Case closed-Otter hands down.
