May sound crazy but adjusting meal sizes has been hard for me. We have six daughters and four are adults. Two are college students. It has been hard for me to adjust how much food to make for a meal. When everyone lived at home I made enough that there was leftovers and some one would always make a lunch the next day. I got used to just youngest two being home and then three more moved home for this summer. Had to figure it out all over again! The things you don't think about. lol

Yep one is enough. Six yikes. I thought it empty nest would take some adjusting but it's been 10 years and life is great. If I would of known how good it is I would of helped them move earlier or I might of moved.

I became dumber and they became smarter. Lol

During the week having a sit down super ready at the same time was the big change. Now we eat when we get around to it. Also I do 99.9% of the cooking now. She has somehow forgotten how to grocery shop and turn the stove on.

Less laundry...and more ice cream

Well let’s see…one bought a house across the street and has my granddaughter, so we see them often. The other moved a town over where he works, but comes home every weekend to wash clothes and have his momma cook for him. Sometimes he’ll spend Friday or Saturday night, sometimes all weekend. And we still have one at home and it’ll be a long time before he ever moves out. So we really haven’t experienced that empty nest feeling.

I have a daughter and a son. Both been out of the house a long time. Son was first to leave - off to college. Came back the next summer after living the college life, being out late, partying, etc. About halfway through the summer with him trying to live like he was still at school - my wife sat him down and told him as long as he lived under our roof, he had to live by our rules. He said “well, I can tell you right now, I wont be back next summer”. My wife said “you are dam right you wont be”. He wasnt either.

He is now a Urologist and my daughter is a QC Chemist for the second biggest pharmaceutical manufacturer in the country. They did OK. I live two hours north of one and two hours south of the other. Close enough to visit often, too far for them to show up unannounced and drop their kids off. My wife and I enjoy life.

When I left for college, my mom changed the door locks and her phone number!

A friend of mine in college, finished up the semester a few days earlier than when his parents were supposed to pick him up and got a ride home from another student. He arrived home to find his parents had sold their house and that someone else had already moved in.

He was pretty traumatized at first. He didn't have his parent's new phone number. He ended up getting dropped off at an aunt and uncle's house about half an hour away.

When they picked him up, his parents had meant to surprise him by taking him to the new, larger house.

Wife heard a car come up drive, heard back door open, and a woman holler, "Mom?"
Dog came in with woman.

Ours took exception to it.
Kitchen dogfight ensued.

Woman had no.idea her mom sold the place and moved.
