...probably going to get tossed.
A large and diverse taxidermy mount collection that has been publicly viewable for 50+ years will probably get tossed as the generations change.
Some tman people may be familiar with the Brockhouse/Delbridge taxidermy collection that has been see-able to the public, first at Brockhouse's West Sioux Hardware store in Sioux Falls and since the early 1980s at the Great Plains Zoo. Henry Brockhouse loved to trophy hunt and and did so in many different locations. from the 1940s through the early 1970s. He started displaying the collection in an enclosed glass portion of his hardware store starting in probably the 1960s. He died in the second half of the 1970s and by the circa 1981 or so, the family wanted to sell the store and find a home for the wildlife mounts collection. Supposedly Disney was hot after them before a local attorney named Delbridge bought the collection and donated them to the Great Plains Zoo where they have been on display for 40 years.
However, new generations obtain power and societal conditions change, including governmental control, and now the collection is old, "dangerous", socially looked down upon by parts of the population, and basically in the way of new city plans. I suspect that the collection will be broken up and some saved by people willing to put up with the hassles of the federal law and "safety" and other parts will be destroyed.
I'm glad my kids (now young men) got to see the collection numerous times. If I have grandkids, they probably won't be as lucky...
