Great Posco. The weather is always good on the Alaska Peninsula I thought some of you old-timers might appreciate that. I commissioned a guy to make me that twenty years ago. As to the weather...it's nice when the wind ain't blowing which is never. And it ain't half bad when it ain't raining which seems to be almost never.

White, that photo is incredible. So much captured in that pic.
Jack, gonads? For what reason?
swampgas chili and schmidt beer makes for a deadly combo
You have to remember that 1 out of 3 Democratic Voters is just as dumb as the other two.

Neat old Wien Alaska logo. Flew with them quite a bit in the olden days. Neat, Posco, that you found somebody to reproduce it as scrimshaw, especially on that fantastic piece of old ivory. Good for you, man!

Good thread Jack, With you, wife, gear, meat, and enough gas to get home...............how much over gross was the cub? Been there, done that, tho not in a cub. My first fly in bou hunt was 1992 on the Tag in unit 23. Flew over with a friend from Ruby. GCBC for me and Cub for him. Western arctic herd was on the up swing and bou were pouring off the hill across from our spot. Transporters were dropping off hunters from Galena. For most of my years up here, bou weren't really a fly in. With the western arctic herd so large you could pick about anywhere from Unalakleet to Kotzebue and out the Seward Peninsula to hunt, if you went at the right time. One year south of Shaktoolik, mid winter the bou were so thick they couldn't get out of the way when you approached on a snogo. Hunted a lot around Shungnak and Kobuk. Natives in that area used to build towers along the river to look for game. First time hunting with locals there we were in one of those towers. Saw some bou coming and got down. The 2 locals went to hide behind some willows. I stayed at the bottom of the tower. Bull walked right up to me but since I held still he didn't recognize me. Shot him at about point blank. Since 2012, living in Fairbanks, most all the hunting has been the 40 mile herd. Easy hunt sometimes. Here is the last time I was successful. Winter 40 mile hunt: If any of you are interested in trying scrimshaw and want old Ivory as pictured, there is often sellers at knife shows. Good amount to be found here in Alaska for sale. Mark Knapp here in Fairbanks may have some or could find some I bet.

Peculiar animals for sure. Sometimes they run off in a panic......then stop, turn around and run right back. I was putting the sneak on a bull moose one September an had stopped behind a large spruce to listen. I noticed movement on my left and looked to find a cow & calf caribou standing within inches of me looking in the same direction I was. I didn't want to spook her so I just stood still and they moved off together. I eventually found the bull I was looking for. Sometimes they are easy to get close and surprisingly calm about it.
