a buddy from mississippi finally got around to writing a book about his adventures as an under cover game warden, with both state and federal wildlife agencies. available from amazon now. its called "the poachers nightmare, stories of an undercover game warden." author is kennie prince. my copy just arrived tonight, and its a fascinating read for anyone with an interest in anything outdoors. its both factual and humorous. any members on here from mississippi will most likely know of kennie. check it out if you enjoy reading.

Awesome!

I've been contemplating writing a similar book of my career as GW in the Okefenokee Swamp region of SE Ga.

Swamp wolf...you should! Many have and I've only read a few that left me wondering how they made a whole career. 99% have been really well written and entertaining.

i met kennie close to 40 years ago. he does beaver, hog, coyote and gator control work, and is licensed for working with explosives. very active in his church, community, and state trappers association. strong in his faith, strong in his convictions, and nothing comes before God and his family. hes the kind of guy you hope your daughter brings home. under cover work involved everything from oysters to poached gators, and venison sales. guaranteed to be a good read.

I believe I bought around 100 pounds of castor from him and a fur buyer at the NTA convention last year. Really nice fella.

paul,,,yes, i believe he mentioned he sold you castor. i dont know where else itll be marketed, but i knew it was coming on amazon, so ordered it there. id guess supply dealers will be carrying it soon. i mentioned it to tim caven at MTP and he was interested. i just finished a couple more chapters, and really enjoying the older pics of kennie, from back when we first met.

I been feral hog trapping the past several years and coons start showing up setting off camera's willy nilly so figured id catch them and get them out of the way. Never dreamed once they are on shelled corn they will ignore EVERYTHING else, dp's, cages, name a bait, grape jelly, eggs, etc, etc.

Went to one of those crawdad boils back in the spring and they were throwing tons of coon bait away, lol. I saved a bag of those tailess dad's and with that boil smell all over them you put one of them down a dp it will stop a coon in it's tracks, lol. There's your tip of the day, lol.

i trapped a skunk just off my deck last winter, using cooked crawfish carcasses as bait. i set and baited the trap, walked about 20 yards back to the wheeler, turned around, and the skunk was coming up from the lake shore running full speed. made a bee line straight to the trap and entered and started eating. didnt even flinch when the door dropped on him. i let him eat his fill before the dispatch. he was fun to have around on weekends, but during the week brents chocolate lab is out here with us at work, and eventually he'd have gotten sprayed, so mr skunk had to go. i told nancy that another week, and id have had him eating out of my hand. he was pretty tame.

just something i heard from a friend down south,,,,they soaked buckets of field corn with diesel fuel, for hog bait. they claimed the coons and deer wouldnt touch it, but the hogs loved it. might be fun to try. hope youve been doing well!
