I have had the best luck wrapping around the chain seems they get ripped off easy if hanging loose especially on coyotes

I wrap mine around the first swivel under the trap so the critter doesn't chew it up. Make sure to check it's still there after a catch regardless of where you put it.

most everything I have is on the first swivel next to the double stake plate.
I think it was on the advice of Tom who I bough most of my trapping supplies from when I got started or one of the trappers Ed instructors and I have lost more traps to theft than tags from traps with it in that location .
I think the logic is being on the swivel right off the J hook on the stake plate it does the least moving around and dragging through stuff
packed with mud but not lost
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

I wrap mine around one side of a swivel and crimp tight with pliers. No holes needed. Experiment on the easiest way to get them threaded so the end ends up inside the swivel. Just do not put them on a swivel right at the trap or they will get chewed on.
On body grips, I just roll them around one of the springs.

They last pretty long when wrapped tightly like that. Get all chewed up if loosely attached. Other spot I had good luck with was to rivet them to the bottom of the frame. Works well if frame doesn’t have an extra bar welded to it. They don’t chew on the bottom of the trap, generally. Jim

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.
