That was my first thought too. Definitely doesn't look like corn.

Not sure what it is but the dairy operations around here plant stuff that looks about same to me for chopping instead of turning corn to silage

I don't think that's corn.

That’s grain sorghum or milo, whatever you want to call it. We plant it after logging operations when they leave bare areas. Provides cover and eventually food.

lol, it isn’t corn, it’s milo. Planted here because the deer would wipe out corn and beans.

How tall is it? Looks like sorghum forage for silage which is just a taller version of milo. Around here deer prefer milo over corn. I believe it's even more palatable to livestock too.

That’s weird, whitetails here don’t seem to care for it. Sika deer are a different story.

They grow a lot of it around me here... and it isn't corn. Great to hunt pheasants in though.

You can say that again.

My neighbor plants it every year, and chops it for silage. Dad used to grow some years ago, said it was the only thing that grew worth a crap on his farm. Sold it to Mcormick to make vodka and grain alcohol

Which raises the question, was Milo Hanson hunting a sorghum field when he shot this buck?
Is his REAL name, Sorghum Hanson?

Hmmmm....

Not corn for sure but in the corn family. Most likely a forage sorghum used for forage. Shorter growing season, lower energy, higher protein and low yielding then corn for silage but good for cattle not in the highest nutrition needs and much lower costs to grow. Deer won't be a problem for the crop in the picture as it won't form a dry grain head if chopped for silage. Around here deer don't bother corn until the ears tip and drop and the kernels dry. Most corn here is silage and High moisture. They will eat the alfalfa before the corn here.
