Oct 10, 2018…you didn’t get none of that? That was Michael and it went up through the southwest part of the state across the central part passing north of Swampwolf. He may not have gotten the worst of it in his corner of the state. I know we got a good bit of it all the way up here.

Savell, Not scared, but wife is very uneasy. Thanks for the invite!
But, I'm set for about 3 to 4 days without power. Got AC. Learned my lesson about not having a generator several years ago. Hopefully the home doesn't sustain any damage.
We're about to have a lot of trees and powerlines go down all over this area.

Hurricane Michael in 2018...we didn't even lose power here.
Got sent on DNR recovery detail to Lake Seminole area after that one...what a mess west of Bainbridge to Donaldsonville to Alabama line and especially along the Lake.

I'm only 68 miles from where the storm is forecast to make landfall along Gulf Coast.
Idalia won't slow much between there and here.
Eye is supposed to move straight from there to here.

Hunker down Swamp and keep your powder dry . If it holds even close to the predicted path and strength we are in for a mess also . NHC looks like they drew a line from you to me which is not very far the way the crow flies .

Eye is supposed to move straight from there to here. … had one before harvey.. don’t remember the name… my place is about 100 miles from the gulf and the eye went right over us… we were out of power for about 3 weeks… so if it gets to the point you’re out of rations and gas for the generator… the porch lights on brother … hope this one plays out and doesn’t get too rough for ya’ll

I know nothing about these things but how many tornadoes spurn from these storms once they reach inland ? Does it very on strength or just like the Midwest the conditions have to be met for a tornado to form ? These may seem stupid but this is low pressure that I have never experienced. statistically, over half of hurricanes that make landfall produce at least one. Wind shear from the ground level winds slowing down due to land friction produces the tornadoes and they tend to be fast moving.

Nothing in SWGA right now but rain. It’s not a downpour, just a light steady rain for now. The way its heading it will pass well S/SE of us. Swamp, things get bad hit me up. I don’t think anyone is at the lodge at the plantation. I’m sure I could get you put up there. It’s nothing major, but it has AC and a hot shower. We would keep y’all fed as well.

Hurricanes don't produce the big long track F5 monsters like you see with the supercells or cold fronts out of the midwest. Nor the multistate multi-day outbreaks the cold fronts do. But the extreme instability can spin up localized smaller intense tornadoes anywhere in the broad path of the hurricane. Often short lived short track but locally intense. Imagine getting pummeled by the the hurricane just to get sucker punched in the middle of it. Because they spin up so quickly and disperse just as fast there is really no way to issue timely warnings for individual rotation like there is with the supercells so you kind of expect the possibility and should be in a safe shelter for the duration.
