That crud almost killed me off in Oct 21 . So sick and broke had to sell the 92 Tundra . I was wishing for one with a reverse anyway .I doubt I will have much luck finding another old Tundra so I need to find something similar . What is there in Yamaha long trac like Tundra .Bravo here was short trac . I don't wander far like you guys , a few beaver sets and ice fishing suits me good for my 74 years .I have had a few of the old Yamaha's and like them more than the USA ones .$2000 is a lot but maybe .

Unfortunately, as far as I know they quit making small, less than 500 cc long tracks years ago. All the old guys around here now drive Wide Tracks. If you get it stuck, and you are alone, and you are old, a shovel is you friend, or a rope along. some have winches. These machines are very difficult to manhandle out of situations. The only old small longtrack machine that had reverse that I am aware of was the Tundra R. Used Bravo longtracks seem to be selling for prices similar to when they were new. No reverse.

$2000 these days will hardly buy groceries. Maybe some used skis or snowshoes and a pull behind?

Called Yamaha to buy a new VK540 2 stroke. They said Yamaha as a company decided to get out of making any more snow mobiles ever again. They told me Yamaha was investing everything in their Side by Side's and ATV's. There weren't any for sale then. Factory parts are discontinued. Glad I didn't by one the year before. Luckily, they had to give everyone their money back that had deposit's.

Tundra II's and the 440LT both have reverse. The 440LT is a pumped up Tundra II. Hard to find. The military (Army) does auction them off now and then. They sold about 15 used white 440LT's about 4 years ago here in Alaska. The military auctions are in every state, you should check your to see what's available for auction. The military also ships items that would sell better to a different Army base. Like sno'go's from the lower 48, send them here, they are gone at the next auction.

https://www.gsaauctions.gov/auctions/home (Try this site. There is one or two more legit Military sites. There is usually a State website too. )

https://dot.alaska.gov/sef/auctionsnew.shtml (This is the Alaska site for state owned stuff. The state has a lot of snow mobiles as well as the Military.) Good luck, hope you find something that works good for you.

My Super Wide will pull your broken down 4 stroke, up a hill backwards, with you on it!

Many thanks Dirt and Superwide ! That is exactly the info I was looking for .The auctions I see there are some 2016 GT Sport 600 with 9000 miles and some GT LE 900 with 10000 . Most of the 600 say reverse is not working . Opinions on these would be welcome .

I'd be a little leery of buying old used snowmachines that were owned by the government. You realize the people running those machines a)worked for the government b)didnt own the machine and c)didnt have to either do the maintenance/repairs or justify the need for them. You can get some good (cheap) buys off those auctions, but it is a crapshoot what kind of a machine you are going to end up with. A friend of mine bought two 550 skandic widetracks with low miles off one of those. Ended up replacing the transmission shortly on one, it had no oil in it when he checked, who knows how long it was run that way, and it didnt last more than a couple of weeks use before it blew up the tranny, and seized the motor before the winter was out. The other one held up for years.

If you can find and 06 to 09 300 Tundra they were a great small machine, but they are rarer than hens teeth for sale and you aren't going to get one for two grand. I don't think you are going to find a small machine with reverse except a skidoo.

Be nice if some company started making elan knock offs.
I owned a few of them back in the day-not a workhorse for sure but for going thru the bush in fairly deep snow they were good. You get in a tight spot just drag the arse end around and go back on your trail.
And easy to work on.

Look into the older Polaris 340 -440 long tracks. Both are very dependable machines and easy to work on. Parts can be had on ebay.

No reverse but reverse just gets you stucker.

The old ET Yamaha 340 long track is good. The 400 Yamaha long track has a reverse . I had both. Good machines too.

I've got a Polaris 340 long track out here. It's got less than 2000 miles on it. Bought it for the wife a couple years ago with only 600 original miles on it. She doesn't ride it much. As far as dependable, I've never had to do a thing to it, but like I said, it hasn't had much miles put on it. The wife has been wanting a newer four stroke, I just don't think she rides the one the she has enough. If I was to buy her a newer machine though I would have a nice spare and get rid of that Polaris, and wouldn't have to buy mix oil any more.

Skidoo still makes a 550 fan cool, but they are all big machines, and that 550 drinks a tremendous amount of gas. 2009 was the last year they made a machine with the little 280cc (they were calling it a 300 then, but the same motor) fan.

There's an older Elan for sale in Pocatello on KSL classifieds, as well as a 300 Skandic in N Utah. Skandic is over your budget though

Thanks sneaky but that is too far for me . Neighbor just gave me a Yamaha XEL 111 . It was hit on one side by his skidder ,(looks to have been dropped out of a plane !) I think it will keep the itch scratched till I find a newer sled ! FREE IS GOOD

I owned numerous polaris RMK trail 550s when in Nome. Decent machine. The 2005 on up models had reverse. Reverse helps if you know when and how to use it. I suspect you are not in an area with a good selection of used snogos.
I currently own 2 bravo long tracks. Still a popular machine amongst trappers. Simple, maneuverable, adequate power in most cases. I would look for that. 2011 was the last year they made them.

Thank you martentrapper, the folks from the towns come here to snowmobile and ride some very nice ones but as you folks know the practical ones for trapping are in short supply .I am very blessed to just hop on at our place and take off without trailering, that is one reason I do not worry too much about old sleds .I was told there were no LT Bravos sold down here . My neighbor had a short track and it was a great little sled . Cottonwoods are yellow and leaves falling seems way early . Tally Ho smith

I have never seen a long track Bravo. But a friend of mine has talked quite a bit about one his dad bought him back when he was in high school in the 90s. So they must have sold a few. But pretty much what all the trappers and hunters used down here was either the Tundras, or Phazers. With the rare Polaris 340 or Elan.

You might try looking for a late 90's early 2000's skandic 380 lt. They were a good machine and not too heavy.

This thread made me want to comment. That’s so much on solving your problem, but just commenting on my experience with snow machines in the early years as snow machines developed to what they are today. What’s troubling is the lack of being able to find it true utility sled, even though I’m not in the market anymore. The last sled I purchased was a bearcat 570.

When the long track tundra came out, I couldn’t wait to get one. They came at a time when they were the first long track utility slid. That was in the late 80s I believe. They didn’t have reverse, end, the oil pump or subject to braking show most everybody I knew went to mix gas with them. The dealers in Alaska sold a pile of both long and short track thunders. They came along at a time when the long track could put you or do you need to be as a Trapper. Later on in their development reversed was added, which made it a true Trapping sled.

After owning a pile of snow machines, the best Machine I ever owned was a 1983 alpine. I was expanding my trap line and the country I trapped was alpine black spruce. I made many miles of trail at 30 below and having a single ski I could run over the Spruce and it would snap off and not tangle the machine up. It had reverse, and if I could move it when stuck 1/4 of an inch I could drive it out of anything.

I love the smell of burning spruce---I love the sound of a spring time goose---I love the feel of 40 below---from my trapline I will never go!
