Can't believe the date for coyote days is finally here! Looking forward to another great trapping event, seeing old friends and making new ones.
Probably have a delicious pizza in downtown Lusk this evening.
Tuffy and I are heading down this afternoon.

I’ve only heard that one of the owners parents have serious health issues, and that they’ve closed down to spend time with them. We’ve heard rumors that they might not reopen, but that could be just that, a rumor. I guess time will tell.

Travis, good luck up there!

We had a good crowd at the main building yesterday afternoon, and everyone is pretty well set up

The weather is good, and it might be a little breezy today, which Is ok too

Have already got to see LOTS of good people!

Got home a few hours ago, this was my 1st time being able to swing out west for the event.I enjoyed myself very much, met many trapper's from many different states MI,IA,NV,MT,NE,WY,SD,ND,KS,OR and even a couple from my home state.Trapping get togethers almost gets you to forget what's happing in the world today, the bad stuff.Trapping gatherings bring out the best of the best in people and I'm not talking only about the trapping experts the 1-2%,trappers in general are just GREAT PEOPLE to hang around with.Thank you again John for starting up the Coyote Days, this was my 1st time but, wont be my last time to be part of it again.Great visiting with all of you other trappers.

As a first timer I was surprised at the large turnout, larger then any NTA Western or State Association convention that I have ever attended. A different type of attendee was there as well. It was much more of a mid west and ag group. That is not hard to understand with Lusk being very close to S. Dakota and Nebraska. John is an amazing guy. He had so much going on, and was receiving phone calls constantly and yet still found time to talk with everyone. I spent some time talking with Michael Pappas. I was blown away by the number of bobcats and the amount of money that has changed hands in his career. Fur buying has to be a very risky and stressful business. Trappers are lucky to have Michael in the industry willing to take the risks and stress.

There are many very memorable and historic places to visit in the Lusk area and just driving there. Mary and I visited MT Rushmore, Devils Tower, the Black Hills, and the Custer battlefield. We stayed one night at the historic Occidental Hotel in Buffalo. It is a replica of a hotel in the Wild West days. I had to leave a little early on Sat eve. after getting a call from home that a fiber optic company had accidentally cut a water main at my house. Expecting to find an Old Faithful type geyser at my home, I was happy to see that the crew had fixed the problem that morning.

It was a humdinger. The best part for me was the look on John's face when some like minded trappers chipped in and gave John a gift of appreciation for what he has done.

A picture is worth a thousand words, thanks to Boone for putting it together and his dad for the taxidermy work.

First time for me a long drive 1160 miles one way, but we’ll worth it. Had a great time and picked up several good tips, I’ll be back next year.

I was so shocked when they brought that coyote mount out!

Boone’s Dad, Mike did a fantastic job on it, and it is sure a pretty ND coyote!

There was so many great moments for me, and I got to meet a lot of people as passionate about trapping as I am, as we’ll as the ‘gang’ that I get to see every year. Memories

Thanks to everyone, and we’ll start working on Coyote Days 2024 as soon as we get through our daughters wedding this weekend!

Thanks Again,

John

Glad you are continuing Coyote Days John. Plan on making my 3rd trip out next year. Love the little town of Lusk. Kind of a midway point for us Western and some Midwest Trappers. I hope the Pizza store stays open. Lusk won’t be quite the same without it.

I go every other year and even with a down fur market, coyote days still draws a large crowd. I would say it was the largest crowd so far. Always a great time, thank you John and all the volunteers.
