Advise me on campers. Is there a reason I would not want a 5th wheel? Is the 5th wheel attachment in the bed of the truck easily removable? 5th wheel OK with a 1/2 ton truck? Just sold my old camper- it was just too darn heavy. Was a toy hauler and good except for the weight. I liked the stacked queen beds you could lower from the ceiling. Too dang old to sleep on the ground anymore.

I have a 36' Designer. 5th wheels are great. The movability / maneuvering is the best IMHO. The hitch is easy to remove and the doesn't interfere with putting stuff in the back. I do have a rubber bedliner that I fitted over the bed rails too. :-)

I have a gooseneck b & w hitch in my truck witch i usr on a regular basis, i also have a 5th wheel b & w hitch that fits in the same spot as the gooseneck ball. Very convenient and wouldn't have a bumper pyll do to ease of pulling and extra room.

That being said if i was going to set up the perfect pulling truck it would be a flat bed with a 10 foot bed same gooseneck hitch and a toy hauler 5th wheel to get to camp then haunbthe side by side on the flat bed to tracel between hunting or trapping spots and leave the 5th wheel in one spot. The only other must is a bumper pull hitch on the 5th wheel to tow the boat in the summer

One drawback is not being able to haul as much in the back of your truck. I like bring a lot firewood along.

1/2 ton trucks vary immensely, go by your manufacture tow rating. 5th wheels are great except you lose the bed space.

If you've ever seen a pickup and a bumper pull loose it going down a long grade, you will become a lifelong gooseneck / 5th wheel guy I promise.
