How come no one has whaled that beluga near Spirit camp? Shame to see all that muktuk and whale dry meat go to waste. It's going to die anyways from fresh water poisoning.

Maybe not allowed? I seen Stan Z's video too. Nice white whale unlike that little grey one at nitaiinlaii last year. That would be was attracted to the water vibrating from the ferry cable

So they made it past here without being seen. Most likely wouldn't catch them anyway. The river is too deep. Hard to catch in deep water. They dive and no waves to follow them like in the shallows on the coast.

Those gray baby Beluga are the best eating. Prized here.

For some reason here the muktuk on the Grey's is tough. We had some in the river here like that. Really hard to catch. People were able to get 5 beluga though. It was a real blessing as no one got whales in the ocean that year a real windy year.
We caught a cow and calf in a drying up river one time and harvested them. Shot the calf up in willows like a beaver. I'll post the video on here in a bit.

You need to mount a harpoon gun on the front of your boat, and take a Nantucket sleigh ride.Looks like lots of pounds of food there.

I went back to look for the scull before freeze up could not find it. Big blond must have pulled it way back and had a feast. Godd I know what happened now. The things you learn on TMan.

If I get another beluga I'll put up a camera. Only small bears around PCL since we built there.

Were I to get Ethen started hunting. What size rifle would be good, I let him shoot 243 yesterday but a bit heavy and loud for him.

Get him a bipod and ear protection and he'll be fine. I started the kids off with 223 but I made sure they were making good groups on paper and knew very well where they had to hit the animal to make sure it drops. Having a compact rifle makes a big difference for small framed shooters. Ruger ranch rifle is an easy to handle option. Let him shoot on 4 power so he can get on target faster.

Rylan shot his first caribou off a tripod. Bobby was resting on my pack frame. Both with full sized 223 and both made great shots. One head shot and one neck shot. Bobby is the true "Neck shot" McLeod not me.

Something like this would be good. Even a shorter one and get him comfortable shooting in the prone position.

Those tripods are nice. Given the age of the youngsters shooting it is good that Bobby was using a commonly carried piece of equipment, the pack frame to shoot from.
Less is more, applies all of the time.
