obsessions can certainly disrupt one's life. you are on the right track and follow what the drs say but do keep in mind that mental health treatment is somewhat of an art. All meds don't work the same with all people. Keep the drs and your self honestly apprised of how you're feeling. If you have a wife ask her to help you (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) how you are doing. Most meds take 2-4 weeks to establish their full effect of what ever good or not they are doing for you. It's OK to not be OK. Don't be afraid to let your drs know how it is going for you. You have taken a critical step into talking about this openly and being an active participant in your management of this illness and your recovery. It's not like putting a cast on a broken leg and then when the cast comes off you are good to go. It's a process over time. You are a strong man and a hero.

Dave, be honest with your doctors and be honest with yourself. Have faith in the process. You have already taken the first big step, in admitting there is a problem. I sincerely hope this all works out.

I guess I should be upset but consider the source it's a guy who pretends to be a conservative but lives in the most liberal state around. More than likely has a Biden doll under his bed. Laughing now? A worn out Biden doll.

Have taken Ambien since 2002. The mind will never heal if you can’t get to sleep.

I doubt it. The kind things they hear like that we'll get some guys fired. I call twice that place today an no reply yet. Hopefully tomma . They don't seem like wanna do much. Heard lot bad stories about ones lock up institutions or wards . Seem like some ppl get into put someone in there. For reason . Make money off them. All sorts crap can get. My aunt had demia . Not sure how pronounced. Bad fatal illness . Those wards are horrid. I can't imagine be lock up in 1 an ones in it. Be with them. Similar or same as jail or prison . escape from one the same penality as escape jail

Hi Dave,

I am no doctor; but, it sounds as though you may have some obsessive compulsive disorder issues, too. How do I know? I have them, too, and have had them as long as I can remember. I constantly check the same doors to make sure they are locked, check the stove to make sure it's off, etc. The behavioral thing I do, now, is to take a breath and take a good, long look at whatever to make certain in my mind that I've accomplished a task. I'm also under a doctor's care and take medication, which seems to help. Just curious, do you double and triple check yourself; when, you are out setting or checking traps?

Best wishes for you to deal with this,

Greg

Keep going to the Doc dave. They want to help you and we all want you to get the help you need. I know with your symptoms it's hard for you to trust them, but I hope you can find a way.

I'd like you to post this on ITT if you get a chance. There are a lot of guys there, that are not on here, that care about what you are going through. And would like to offer you their support.

I completed a 6 week outpatient program, got on the right meds and see a therapist. It has changed my life for the better. Don't give up, keep working on getting yourself better.

You will feel better soon, Dave.

To have a little bit in common, but of course a lot different than what you will be treated for , a kind of "repeat checking" behavior is rather normal , too.

I want to be encouraging and have you feel that, to the best extent possible, we all share a little of these things just by experiencing life.

In no way am I making small what you endure. I'm just observing, in a good way, that most of us share a bit of this worry in life. Especially those of us who have experienced trauma .

Those of us who have experienced a fire , that burned down our house, sheds, or the like, we all know how focused we are in anything fire. The chimney MUST be cleaned often...always looking at pipes. Checking carefully when we put very flammable chemicals back where they belong. And if a whiff of smoke is detected, we go on full alert until we find what it is. Checking where we park in care , in the woods.

I have a mantra I mumble to myself every time I get out of my truck, before I lock the door. "KEY IN HAND". Just like shooting, it is a muscle memory habit that I ingrained into my head. I see that key in my hand every time , before I lock the door. Getting locked out of my truck a few times in life helped me to instill that repeat check.

Just a couple of things that many of us do in repeating fashion . The difference is, that after a bit, we see that all is well or safe , and then can continue on the day.

The good thing is, that there are options docs have to helping to feel much better and happier. You are on that good path.

Just read what all the fine people on here tell you . You’re on the right path move forward the past will always eat on everyone. Start looking for the positives in any situation don’t dwell on what you can’t control and enjoy life even if it’s a 3 buck raccoon.
