Despite real dry conditions, my plots are doing Purdy good. The pumpkins I was able to bucket water to them to keep them going. 400 plants each got about 10 gallons. The few sunflower plants, (rubbing posts) also got water by buckets. Clover struggled a bit but the past 2 weeks, a few small rains have fallen and the clover is doing well. Just planted Brassicas 9 days ago and they are coming up great. I seldom bowhunt looking over a food plot but just enjoy doing it.

Goldy, why that mix this time of year? Way to early for rye/oats. ?

Looks good, you try to invite big game and I'm trying to avoid them. I planted a few hills inside this old corral at the ranch this year, because my wife like to raise a few pumpkins for decorating and for our two granddaughters. At our home in town just not enough room for them. I put in 5 hills and never have watered them yet and have gone crazy. I have sheep fence about 5 feet from the corral that goes all the way around it and it is out of that fence too. To this point they haven't messed with me, and I hope they don't. There is lots of basketball size jack-o-lanterns in there.

Did a simple estimate on tonnage per acre. On a 1/4 acre, there are usually 400_500 pumpkins on a good year. The pumpkins I plant are " sugar pie" variety. They get about 6_8 lbs. At 400 per 1/4 acre that's some serious weight. Just satisfying sitting on my deck and watching deer pour in late season 30 yards away. Ozark, no, the deer have no problem getting them open. Even when frozen. Impressive Snowy for not watering them. Just measured that tallest sunflower plant. 12 1/2 '. Really don't care how tall they get. Thick stalks is what I want. There will be a cam guarding them soon to capture the carnage the bucks will put on them.

When they turn orange, their name will appear as a raised tan scar. My kids couldn't figure that out for a few years, had them convinced it was a magic pumpkin patch!

I put this in 5 days ago. 48% oats, 48% peas,1% each radishes and turnips. I bushoged the area ran the tiller over it 3x broadcast seed by hand, then drug a cattle pannal over it behind the 4 wheeler and with rach pass of the. Wheeler I moved over a tire width and used the tires to pack the seed bed. I didn't fertilize . Thr next night er got a nice rain. I have not been home in 4 days but hopefully it will be coming up soon. It's my 2nd food plot in my life the last one I did with hand tiller and never hunted it or watched to see if deer hit it at all. We don't need them to kill deer but my boys showed interest in them so I'm putting some out I plan on over seeding several areas I mow for paths with duch white clover and may put some other things out if I get time. The clover is mainly for my bees but if the deer like it that's even better. I don't know squat about what to plant for deer or when. Just went to the seed store and got a mix they make and recommend for putting in at this time of year. I can't wait to get home and see if it's coming up. This one is about 20 yards by 90 yards.
