For y'all chasing deer in the deep south, y'all ever had luck calling in deer ? Specifically rattling ?

Wolfie I’m not Deep South but yes rattling and grunting are super effective on the right deer on the right day but the most important thing is knowing when to shut up because they know exactly where you’re at and the same with turkeys. Some will run you over and some will take sweet old time

I killed the biggest buck of my life by rattling him in. First time I had done it and had real success. Joker came running in looking for a fight. That’s been probably five years ago now. Lately all rattling does for me is bring in the curious young bucks.

Never, not once. I have better luck just siting still and keeping quiet.

I’ve rattled in one mature buck and a bunch of little ones over the last several years. The mature one was the first one I ever rattled in and thought I was on to something. I’ve been trying to replicate it ever since and haven’t been able to do it; although I have had a couple exciting encounters with the little guys.

I rattled one in once and had to shoot it to save my life. Peak of the rut. He came in fast and hot and close. I could see the white of his eyes, he was so fired up.

Yes....twice I've rattled in and killed bucks. One came in alone. Other time was a rainy November morning and four bucks came by in a 15 min span. I've hunted deer every season since 1978, but in all fairness to rattling, I haven't rattled more than a couple dozen times in all those years. I prefer to be quiet.

But, I have called unseen deer in with a grunt and a bleat can several times over the years. And have turned bucks around with a grunt call more times than I can count...and brought them right to me. A snort-wheeze is deadly.

Never rattled a buck in. Now early muzzleloader season and a fawn bleat is alot of fun.
