The bloody hand is what started it all. Cutting a twisted tree. It twirled around and got my hand trapped between 2 logs. Stayed there about half an hour fighting to get loose. Got lucky and a cousin came riding by and found me. Ran back home and got a pry bar to get me out. A week later I came down with drop foot. Doctor claimed from nerve damage from fighting to free myself from tree. One night a few days later I walked out into garage to get something out the freezer and being my foot was hanging down I scraped the end of my big toe that it was bleeding a little. That was it. Bacteria set in. No amount of antibiotics would treat it. Kept getting worst until the big toe had to be amputated which led to the rest. That's the life of a diabetic. Only good thing about it is when you shower and dress your toes don't get caught in your underwear when your slipping it on. Your half foot just slide right in Well at least you found a bright side. Hopefully thay were able to get rid of all the infection and you heal up fast. I had an friend of a friend that blew off one of his toes with a muzzleloader. I don't think it was even his big toe and it really gave him a limp and made it hard for him to walk. Hopefully you have an easier time adjusting. That's a horrible turn of events.

Good to see you on the road to recovery. What a great looking fly.

You got it covered Bud.You have to accept what the good lord hands you and keep on going. Like my old man used to say-Its a lot better to be over the hill than under it. God Bless.

Diabetes is nothing to play with. Don't ever turn your back on it or ignore the medication. We will keep you in our prayers.

Perfect situation to spin a good yarn, and you blew it. The story should have read that you were checking beaver traps while barefoot and stepped on a set 750. At risk of going down a drowning cable, you had to dunk your head under the water and chew your foot off. Best of luck for a full recovery.
