Yep on the squirrels starting on the hickory nuts. About 8 to 10 days away here. Scouted a bit today. Just sampling a couple here and there. It goes from that to feeding frenzy on them in a matter of a few days. Late August walnuts, early September pecans, acorns anytime after that.
That’s when fall is beginning to me.

Potato harvest around the first of September. Leaves start turning about the same time.

In our area a very early sign that comes before leaves, berries etc. is the almost daily heavy dews that start the last half of August. Days warm up but nights begin to cool more as with the rotation and the longer nights.

yotetrapper30 I'm close to where you used to live. A flock of tree swallows stopped by yesterday to visit the barn swallows on their way south. It's started. Can't wait.

Fall is no where in sight here. 97 this weekend with 87% humidity.

When we can do these two things, fall is right around the corner. Cut silage, goose fields, labor day, 90 degree days laying in a layout blind, that means fall is coming!!

August 30 first hunting seasons open but for real fall it is the first big rain storm. We get little to no rain in July,August and some to all of September. The later in the year the storm happens the more wind we get and the worse it is. The latest I remember was middle of October and it seems the whole country was on fire because the wind was blowing over power lines before the rain arrived.
