What are they for you?

When I lived up north, one of them was when the chicory bloomed. But down here it blooms in June.

So I've came up with some new ones.

Spiderwebs! A few weeks ago I went for a walk in the woods and there wasn't a spider web to be found. A week later I went out again looking for mushrooms and you couldn't walk 5 feet without walking into a nasty ol spiderweb. About the same time, I saw the first big yellow garden spider. Once the spiderwebs start showing up, fall is never too far behind.

Grapes ripening. Within the past 2 weeks, my grapes have begun to ripen.

First colored leaves. While looking for mushrooms I was surprised to see several red leaves already fallen to the ground.

Pumpkin spice everything. I was in Walmart the yesterday looking for coffee and I noticed the first pumpkin spice stuff.... Dunkin pumpkin spice coffee.

On the way to work yesterday I saw a flock of geese. They may have been local geese but I'm counting them as an early sign of fall!

We still have the brutal month of August to go and the not-very-fallish month of September too, but these little signs give me hope that summer won't last forever.

For me archery season and the sounds of bugling elk mark the end of summer and the beginning of Fall

My first sign is the big yellow and black garden spiders and then, no more oriole or Red breasted grossbeaks.

This is all happening now.....

Red maple leaves are turning red here...those in the wetlands turn 1st.

Nearly all summer wildflowers have completed their blooming....most have dropped theor blooms already.

Bucks are still about 3 to 4 weeks away from rubbing velvet, but their racks are mostly full size. This far south, they will be all hard-horned by end of August

Bay trees have bloomed and dropped their petals.

All blackberries are gone.

Live oak acorns are visible protruding from the end of cap.

Fewer hummers, leaves turning, not sweating when having coffee on the back porch. Lower electric bill.
I love fall, winter and early spring. Rest of year sucks as temp goes up.

First frost end of August.
Real fall starts sept 15 with the opening of grouse season.
A good excuse to get out on the trapline and start doing some line mtc.
