Can someone tell me when they were first manufactured? I am watching 1883 and saw some hanging in a general store. I realize a lot of TV is made up but it stirred my curiosity as to when they were first made.

Blake and lamb has an under spring trap in production since 1850s maybe earlier.
Coil springs where not easy to get till the 1900s. Triumph, gibbs and diamond made lots in the 1920s and 30s.
