I'm looking for a fly in fishing service in Canada, that is an on your own deal. Primitive accommodations are fine. Most of the ones I've Googled are luxury lodges with meals and guides. I'm just looking for a cabin, a boat, and a flight in.
Any recommendations is appreciated.

Money can't buy everything...but, it can buy me a boat.

Me & a few relatives have gone here. Full service place owned by my cousin. We just get a couple boats, bunk cabin and cook our own food. Send him an email and ask…..I’m sure there’s no problem for others to do it.

I have gone the last 10 years into Ontario. I know it is a farther drive for you but I have always been extremely happy with the outfitter. The cabins are basic, solar/propane powered and you are the only cabin on the lake. We usually catch 100+ walleyes per boat, per day and BIG Northern Pike. The cost for the flight, cabin, boats and motors is about $1500 per person for the week. If you are interested let me know and I can PM you the outfitters info.

I have nothing clever to put here.

Again this may be too far for you but I have been there a couple times in years past.
The owner which I knew from a friend of mine has sold but the lakes are still there.
You will not be disappointed with the fishing there.
The last time I was there the owner flew in mid-week to see if anyone had died or were out of beer.
I suppose they have better communications now or maybe not. It is about 110 air miles northwest of Red Lake, Ontario.
You want to go to Bearberry Lake (really Warwick). 2 cabins and a lot of water. Walleyes and northern pike.

If you get as far as Northwest Ontario, Nestor Falls Fly-In Outposts. Dave and Michelle will take very good care of you.
In Manitoba Kitchi outposts, or one of Jackson’s outposts.
Sask, I’d go to Last Mountain lake GandS guide service has drive up cabins on the lake, the fishing is phenomenal.

What your asking for and should search for is a fly in “outpost” opersation. They will fly you in to a cabin, boats and fuel waiting. Do your own cooking, most are a bring your own groceries deal this some will supply.

Pretty rare to find one that will drop you, your tent, and canoe where you want to go. Some may

There is the option of fishing the rivers and flowages out of the northeast end of lake Winnipeg. They run northeast to Hudson Bay. There is a train that runs daily out to the bay then back. It will stop to let you off, or pick you up along the way. Take a canoe and your gear, tents, food, and explore unimpeaded near virgin waters, when ready to quit work your way to the railroad and be picked up. I’ve done it many times, great trip on your own.

For the most part you have to get up to Buffalo Narrows in Sask to get to decent fly in options. I don’t know your budget but some lodge operations do have separate cabins on the same lake property where you do your own thing. Other folks stay in the full service lodge. Cree Lake has a good selection and fabulous fishing.

I don’t mean to take over your thread, feel free to message me and I’ll help you out. From Great bear in the territories nearly to Nipigon in Ontario I’ve fished people on a lot of waters across there thru a lot of operations.

Thanks for the help. Osky- I guess I didn't realize that what I was looking for was an outpost. Thanks for the tip.

Your welcome. If your thinking this year yet you should look for cancellations the outfitter has. You can buy them cheaper. The outfitter is trying to fill a spot so the plane does not have a deadhead run one side or the other.
I will cation you that most outfitters anymore have a minimum of six people required. Some will do 4. For the ones who do fewer there is generally a pretty pricey extra to pay. The number of people are needed to offset the flight costs which are the biggy. Some outfitters I know have camps that are not too far of a flight, these with lower transport cost they will maybe require fewer people yet.

I've kind of noticed that.
I'm looking at a year or 2 down the road as my son is entering high school and won't be with us much long so kind of looking for a special memory before he's gone.

Good to plan ahead.
I’d think you may have to set your sites on 4 people in your group minimum.
These days for the really good fishing ( I know there are exceptions ) you have to drive farther or to a more remote jumping off point. The easy to get to easy to drive to places are hit pretty heavily theses days.
A lot of the bigger lodge operations offer outpost camps as well.
Price wise these days a good outpost set up will run 1500-1700 per person all included from the airbase and back for a 5 day trip. Groceries not included. I’m not sure where that will be in a couple of years.
Also, know ahead of time what you want to go after… walleye, pike, lake trout,… it can be harder to find outposts on lakes large enough to have all three. You may like smallmouth or musky as well but keep in mind those species only go so far north. The other three populate all the way into the Territories.
For pike and walleyes in good areas bite well year round. Lake trout get tougher in the heat of summer.
Make sure no one in your group has had a DUI or other felony arrest in the previous ten years.

A last note, the people who are fishing in the fly ins are generally given first option to re book the following year. To get what you want you have to book well in advance, the autumn before you want to go. As stated above somewhere you can wait until the summer of and try for a cancellation but that’s a bit of a crap shoot. Put a bug in an outfitters ear as to where you’d like to go and he’ll put you on his first options list for openings.
