Nice boy. I like that colour. I like the tall ones. Posting to the trot is slower. He is nicely balanced now, wait til he begins to fill out and muscle up , when he grows out of the teen years.

Nice looking mount, Deerkiller. I used to have a Hancock bread blue roan. Also Tuffernhell, and Strawberry Major were in his pedigree. Tall gelding that could ruin like the wind if there was another horse to compete with. Once he passed then, he would shut down a little to let them catch up, then pass them again.. Didn't make me very happy when trying to get around a bunch of cattle that I was trying to turn back. Sure was a pretty bugger though, and only bucked my hat off once. Charlie

Nice horse. He should be able to cover the miles. What's the long term goal for him I just trail ride and hunt off them. I don’t know much about horses, so I thought you would have had him trained sooner? My thought would be in that 2 to 3 year old range. I was letting him grow up. Not I have done all the other work just have not got on him till now.

I am not a horse guy but thats a good looking animal. Only way to elk hunt is horseback with pack animals. Guides dont like it when you do that but they get over it.

Probably the best horseman I ever worked for left them alone until they were 4. He said once he had one broke, work and lots of it made the best horse. A 2 or 3 yr old is not quite mature enough for that hard of work, but a 4 yr old was.
He believes that starting one to early invited tendon type injuries when they were young and navuncular issues later in life.

That is a good looking buckskin and nice height and they do a lot of growing between 2 & 4 so some say to wait til 4 to put a weighted saddle or heavy load on them. Yea I got the 2 year olds but can hardly call me heavy @ 140 and by the time I get a new batch to ride they were pretty much bomb proof and great pack string leaders. The one that I actually kinda miss cause she got leased to a girl scout camp was a 3 year old paint filly that brought me out of the mtns on a night so dark could not see the ground beneath her hooves, leading 8 mules
