I have a bunch of Hawthorne brush down on the creek. Are the berries good for anything?

People make jelly out of hawthorn berries. I've never made or had hawthorn jelly, so I could not tell you if it's any good.

The berries have medicinal value. I believe there are cautions about eating too many as it can cause heart arrythmia. That being said I do know people make jelly out of them.
I cut one down for my girlfriend and after the fact did some reading on them and it turns out it is bad luck to cut one down. We have since split up but I don't know if you would call that bad luck. I do miss her dog though.
Supposedly hawthorn is what the crown of Jesus was made out of. Also supposed to be an essential wood for making stakes to slay vampires with.

Lucky me, the kind that I see here is the variety with the longest thorns, a full 2 inches.

Hawthorn was sacred to the druids.

They make a fantastic hedge between you and the annoying neighbor. Bears eat them. Other than that, we used to call them "waitaminit brush" when I surveyed and if there were any around you knew exactly where to look for the monument or property corner at... Right in the middle of the thickest patch.
