It is that time again that Japanese Beatles will be attacking our plants in the garden. Is there any way they can be killed while still in the ground without hurting your plants or animals? I know they make traps but that just attracts them.
Let's hear how you take care of them.

I just spray sevin when they appear. They can tear up my apple trees in just a couple days if untreated. I usually do two sprays 2 to 3 weeks apart and have great control

I hang a trap about 30 feet away from the garden. This year the gypsy moths are more of an issue. Just got 2 traps for those today and man do they work great.

Use the granules that kill grubs . I’ve used it about every 3 years and haven’t seen a June bug or beetle for almost 10 years now Put it on and get ready. Dead grubs by the hundreds laying everywhere

Milky Spore, three-year treatment in year two. A lighter year so far here. Don't use traps anywhere near your plants. They will catch some but attract way more. Traps should be a long way from your desired trees plants.

Use mallet for trees. Not sure on fruit trees. We have a Lindon tree at work and they are dead on the leaves.

buy your neighbors pheromone traps

then they visit your neighbors more than you

well if you have a large spread , put the traps on your land 50 yards away from your garden

it helps
my neighbor even buys traps most years
I saw my first Japanese Beatle of the year yesterday , I need to buy some traps and hang them by the road

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

If there in vegetable plants
Roses or flowers low land scape bushes

I’ve used Olive Oil

I don’t like chemicals on my vegetables if I can avoid it
Spray come back and look couple hrs later

Carbaryl, which was the former active ingredient in Seven, knocks them dead on the plant if they get hit by the spray and you usually have good residual control for at least a couple rains. Luckily the beetles run their course typically in about 30 days. Seem like it drug on forever last summer though. If they are clustered on bushes you can knock them into a bucket of soapy water, even easier after sunset. Just don't spray where you will have an impact on active pollinators.
