Yep, more and more common with the extra fees associated with credit cards. All those "bonus" programs have to be paid from somewhere.

I pay cash as much as I can.

Yep, got hit with 8% charge when I used the CC to pay for registration and tags for the truck.

I run a small business and my CC processor charges me 3.4% for any CC transactions. So if I don't charge the customer that 3.4% it comes out of my end of the payment and I lose money and that would be several thousand per year.

yup

CC companies make their money some of it by charging the retailer 3% so many retailers have turned that to the customer.

definitely getting more common

lots of gas stations has a cash price and a credit price

lots of small retailers are now cash or 3% up charge

but when you get to the bigger cities they are cashless in many places , you can only use a card so there is nothing for them to get held up for

been to a few coffee places you pay an extra dollar for CC or debt card no matter the bill

this is why some places have a minimum purchase to use a CC but some CC terminal contracts won't let them set a minimum so then they change to a dollar fee or 3%

I never did take credit cards for payment and when asked by a customer why not, I flat told them I'd have to charge more.

Every single one understood and a good amount of them didn't know there was a charge to the business.

Just ordered 4 new aftermarket wheels for my older Chevy Silverado a few days ago. When asked about payment the dealer said it would be 4% more to pay with a CC. I said I would run down and pay in cash. We are going to start with our Wildlife Control business since we are charged 3.9% on the amount of the sale and a per ticket fee.

It does rub me the wrong way when businesses tell me there will be a 3% up charge on cards and I know they are losing some business by doing that. For the life of me I can’t figure out why they don’t spin it as a 3% discount if paying cash.

My credit cards often give me more back then they are charging the places I shop. I can understand how my Amazon card can give me 6% back when shopping at Amazon and still be profitable. Discover giving me 5% back at all gas stations, restaurants and grocery stores, makes less sense.

We have a restaurant that charges two different prices when it's cash or CC.

Must be nice to eat ice cream as fast as you want and not have to worry about brain freeze.

You don't t think the banks incur any expenses in providing the electronic networks, the machines that read cards, the computers that keep track of millions of transactions a day, the IT people that keep the systems running and available 24/7/365 and the legions of accountants who keep track of everything ?

It's just greed ?

The banks got a bail out in the Obama Administration. And I'm not a friend of greedy bankers.
