I see, pretty much every pork product at Sam's Club went up 20-25% in the past week. I guess, we can thank California's new anti-confinement regulations for this. Chicken is up also, guessing, for the same reason. Somebody needs to take their tofu away!

I just ran across an old newspaper from '81. They had an ad running for smoked hams at 81 cents a pound. It hasn't gone up a whole lot in that 40+ years. Lots of things have went up too much but chicken and pork sure haven't kept up with inflation. I might be biased though as I raise pigs.

Hard to understand with hog farmers losing more per head than they did back in the late 90’s when most private producers went bankrupt including one of my best friends. Bought a 10 lb pork loin Friday for less than I paid for a 12 0z ribeye. Pork loin was $1.49 a lb and they would cut and tenderize for free. 12 0z ribeye was $15. Doesn’t make sense to me

I think there is a 6 month moratorium on the confinement law, but that won't stop a price increase.

I bought two pork loins yesterday @ $2.48/#. Last week, they were $1.98/#. I did find a small chain grocery store who had bacon on sale @ $2.99# yesterday. Loaded up on that!

I remember buying a 200# hog from a friend/hog farmer back in the late 90's for $10. He was happy to get rid of it at that price. They buried alot of pigs back then so they wouldn't have to feed them.

Meat made in the laboratory is going to be the big push in the future. The hot weather will be the momentum they need to promote the animal gas thing. They won't want us eating animals but won't kill them either, so I guess just let the cows roam free in the streets. I guess free cows don't put off as much gas as those penned up !

I bought several hogs at 10 bucks each during that price drop.

Hard to find a reasonably priced hog for self butcher now. Most producers are under contract to seaboard farms, cargill or some other corporation and can not sell you one. A lot of the others have jumped on the "but these are organic" nonsense.

Mass produced pork taste like tofu anyways, May as well just eat that. Chicken should be the beneficiary of higher pork prices and regulations, I've been investing in chicken companies because of this.

There are so many chemicals in veggies made to taste like meat. Once the consumer is aware of that, it's doubtful it has a future.
I won't eat any of that garbage.

Must be nice to eat ice cream as fast as you want and not have to worry about brain freeze.

According to this article there will be no plants used. But is very quickly to mention there will be no need for animals to get meat and thus eliminating the cause of the hotter temperatures and the sea's rising a couple hundred years from now.

Not sure about this week but pork prices have been very reasonable compared to the past couple years here.

The death loss is probably finally catching up with the supply chain, most of the large producers are on a cost plus program where they don’t make the big money when the market goes up but they don’t lose they’re backside when it’s down, these guys raise pretty decent pork, and are based in the USA.

Well, I do see a very significant 1 week price increase in the numbers you posted. I have no facilities for butchering anything much bigger than fish/pheasant, unfortunately.
