I see, pretty much every pork product at Sam's Club went up 20-25% in the past week. I guess, we can thank California's new anti-confinement regulations for this. Chicken is up also, guessing, for the same reason. Somebody needs to take their tofu away!

I just ran across an old newspaper from '81. They had an ad running for smoked hams at 81 cents a pound. It hasn't gone up a whole lot in that 40+ years. Lots of things have went up too much but chicken and pork sure haven't kept up with inflation. I might be biased though as I raise pigs.

Hard to understand with hog farmers losing more per head than they did back in the late 90’s when most private producers went bankrupt including one of my best friends. Bought a 10 lb pork loin Friday for less than I paid for a 12 0z ribeye. Pork loin was $1.49 a lb and they would cut and tenderize for free. 12 0z ribeye was $15. Doesn’t make sense to me

I bought two pork loins yesterday @ $2.48/#. Last week, they were $1.98/#. I did find a small chain grocery store who had bacon on sale @ $2.99# yesterday. Loaded up on that!

They buried alot of pigs back then so they wouldn't have to feed them.

I bought several hogs at 10 bucks each during that price drop.
Hard to find a reasonably priced hog for self butcher now. Most producers are under contract to seaboard farms, cargill or some other corporation and can not sell you one. A lot of the others have jumped on the "but these are organic" nonsense.

Meat made in the laboratory is going to be the big push in the future. The hot weather will be the momentum they need to promote the animal gas thing. They won't want us eating animals but won't kill them either, so I guess just let the cows roam free in the streets. I guess free cows don't put off as much gas as those penned up ! There are so many chemicals in veggies made to taste like meat. Once the consumer is aware of that, it's doubtful it has a future. I won't eat any of that garbage.
Must be nice to eat ice cream as fast as you want and not have to worry about brain freeze.

If you're willing to do the butchering yourself, pork from auction is very cheap.
Monday, June 26th sale Results: Hogs: Sows: 380-570 lbs.: .20-.38 Butchers: 170-197 lbs.: .70-.75 295 lbs.: .57
Monday, June 19th sale Results: Hogs: 60 Sows: 320-655 lbs.: .15-.23 Boars: 510-765 lbs.: .03-.07 285 lbs.: .30 Butchers: 150-175 lbs.: .20-.55 205-207 lbs.: .48-.50 240-265 lbs.: .5650-.61 Feeder Pigs: 59 lbs.: 50.00/head 77 lbs.: 59.00/head-Gilts 78 lbs.: 43.00-50.00/head- Boars
Keith Well, I do see a very significant 1 week price increase in the numbers you posted. I have no facilities for butchering anything much bigger than fish/pheasant, unfortunately.
