Working on traps and making some waxed dirt here lately. Ordered a few things from MTP to make things easier and more standardized. A trap pan tension device, a tool that easily adjusts pan height and a tool that bends rod dogs and makes J hooks. Can easily make sure that all of my trap's pans are set at 2.5 to 3 Lbs. and pans are all perfectly flat. I like all things to be standard as much as possible and was amazed how far out of whack some of my traps had gotten after a few years of use. My 550s are almost ready for wax when it cools down this fall and the Alphas will be ready a soon as I get a couple more days off.

I cleaned up my 550s today as well. Will dye and wax later.

You talking about this?

The only other tool I found on their site for pan stuff is the tension tester.

I use Bob Custer's bender for round rod dogs and making hooks. I love that tool

Bobs Bender was a genius moment for him and made our work enjoyable and productive for trappers that like to make their own hardware. I got mine shortly after I saw a demo from him. I haven't seen or spoken to him for some time. I hope he is doing well.

These are the three items I was referring to.

Yes there comes a time when spending a dollar is far better than saving a dime and I also need to lay my ego aside as well. I can no way move and get around like I did 43 years ago when I restarted trapping again, but thankfully over time I have learned systems that are more user friendly, more efficient and effective which makes up for the loss of youthful vigor to an extent.

I use these. You can get them pretty cheap at the store. Plus they come in different weights, 2,3,4,5 ect. The neoprene protects the jaws on the trap. I'll use a 2# & 3# to set up a trap. Goes off on 3# but, make sure 2# doesn't set it off.

That's interesting. You can adjust your traps and get a mild workout at the same time!

Common sense is a not a vegetable that does well in everyone's garden.
