I think this statement assumes she is color blind.

It sounds like any old 12 ga will do. Grab one, cut a sliver or two off of the stock until it fits.

that assumes you look at all while stuffing shells

I will shoot , and it is so second nature to stuff shells while maintaining visual on the target I may get up to the bird pick it up and check my gun and find it is already full again with the safety on because reloading is so second nature I am not even looking or thinking about it.
my bring it to the shoulder motion always pushes the safety also if it is already off then it doesn't click

Are semi autos reliable enough for bear protection? ... though I have had pumps jam on rare occasions too.

AH I own a sweet 16 ga , full choke , and it kicks harder than my 12 ga modified.
Both Remington 870's
Fox Sterlingworth Double barrel 20 ga is my favorite gun.
Fits right to the shoulder , and finest shooting shotgun I owned.

it depends on the semi auto , but they cost a LOT more and if your going to be dragging it everywhere during chores and such , the one least susceptible to the dirt it will encounter and the easiest to clean and put back together and verify function.

one of the reasons the Maverick 88 is so popular for utility duties 250 dollars you can buy 4-5 88s for the price of a berretta 1301 tactical

used 870 isn't much more , nor is a 500

I had a CZ712 Utility that was very reliable with high brass 2 3/4" ammo but 3" would jam occasionally. Not an expensive gun for a semi-auto. Kind wish I'd kept it...

I agree with the Magpul stock. I am vertically challenged and that stock fits me well.
Also any of the LE reduced recoil buckshot loads will help her put rounds on target quickly.

If it’s in the budget I highly recommend the Beretta 1301 with a Magpul but stock.

If you buy a shotgun, get one with a wood stock.
Figure out how much needs to be cut off.
Take the butt plate off.
Use a drill with a bit smaller in diameter than the screw, and drill as deep as you need to through the existing screw holes so that when you cut the piece off, you'll have holes for the butt plate screws to go back into.
You can save the piece you cut off so that in the future you can put the piece back in and use extra long screw to hold that piece and the butt stock on. Everything will be lined up very evenly done that way.
