Anyone have any suggestions for a deer repellant that WORKS?
Not talking about Irish spring soap, clumps of human hair or other nonsense.
All the stuff I've tried seem to the deer as a flavor enhancing condiment, My backyard is fenced and safe, my front yard has a low fence for the dogs but not tall enough for deer. Trying to protect miss daisy's roses and other ornamentals. A tall fence on the road is doable but ugly, Electric fencing on the road side won't go over very well with the neighbors I'd imagine. Yes I know about the final solution...trying to avoid that.
Pulling my hair out doesn't help, plus I don't have any, lol, trying to keep the old gal happy......
I just tried something, that does not look great, but may be okay at night at your place at night. I stood a couple of 55 gallon barrels on end. Sat 5 gallon buckets on top and put my sweaty t-shirts draped over the buckets. It made the deer stop eating my cherries.
There is a company near me that charges a good buck to protect people's yards from pests like deer.
The key to their success is to constantly change up repellents and the like. Deer will grow accustomed to repellents quickly. Bobbex is one of the better ones , but not a cure all. Keeping the deer on a state of heightened alert is key.
One thing that works good is this or a product similar -
You still need to move it around on a regular basis to change things up. The sudden motion , noise and spraying of water for a few seconds does the trick.
Besides a 30-06, I have used Liquid Fence sprayed around the wife's flower bed with decent success. You have to re-spray if it rains hard. She bought something from Amazon that is little smelly packets you hang a few on each plant that she wants to try next.
Must be nice to eat ice cream as fast as you want and not have to worry about brain freeze.
Play a radio. An old transistor radio or a weather proof speaker ran outside. Doesn't have to be loud at all. Volume 1 will be enough if your yard is small. Put it on a timer. This has always worked for my dad's vegetable garden. Unheard by you or the neighbors but enough to make the animals edgy. Dad plays the local A.M. polish channel

This worked good for me for about 2 weeks then it was like Saturday night at the bar I think they got to like the music
I’ve used this for several years with great success. Keeps deer out of my garden, soybean patches , etc. Wouldn’t have believed it if I hadn’t seen it myself. I use it for 3-4 months…not sure how effective it would be for longer periods but they stay away from it. Never had anything keep them out of soybeans until this. Good luck
I take my old socks and put them in the laundry basket for a week and let them absorb the smells in there. Then I put them over a stake. I use those orange driveway markers, placed every 20' or so. I also hang and old well worn tee shirt on a Shepard's hook. The smell and movement works good. I protect my white cedar evergreens all winter this way.

Like I said, I've tried many of the sprays, and rotate them, mixed stronger then the instruction say, use milorganite too, those blinky lights, granular applications, fishing line.....nothing works on these deer for more than a few days or week.... They come up on the deck and eat out of the flower containers now.
Only reason they're still alive is I don't want to deal with them in the summer heat, but that might change soon....Thanks for all the suggestions....
Get an outside dog. Put in an electric dog fence. Leave dog outside. Get deer leg from road killed deer and play fetch and tug of war with the dog. Your dog will soon learn deer sent equals fun. Your deer trouble will be over and you will have a new best friend.
Dryer sheets work well for me. I cut them up in strips and tape or tie them to stakes. They last at least a month and that includes going thru several rain storms. Been doing this for years. I have Hosta's at every corner of the house and the deer love them in the spring. Bounty dryer sheets do the trick, but don't be stingy with them!
We had a fella, goes by the name of Ugly Bob, who hunted with us one deer season. He was the best deer repellant I've ever seen. He had a knack for talking too loud. His whisper wasn't even close to quiet. He couldn't shut up for a minute at a time, and he always slammed the truck door as loud as is possible.

Sounds like the best option. Other then staking out the little women and let her defend her flowers.
