Can a second batch of fur go through a pickle?
First batch is set to come out on Monday. Could I add a new batch of salted fur to the old pickle.

I did it this winter. I made sure the PH was 1 or 2 before i added them. It worked out great for me but I'm no expert. I was only doing 4 at a time.

I was planning on rehydrating the fur, salting for 24 hrs, then into the pickle… if ph was still there I was thinking that seems logical that it would work??

just dump the hide straight into the pickle. No sense risking slippage rehydratng it.

Pickle can be re used indefinitely as long as the ph remains correct. And as long as it doesnt get too dirty.
If I am working with dried skins,i will re hydrate them, and give them a wash during the rehydration with dishsoap.i will scrub and scud the leather side to de-grease them, then rinse them well in clean cold water.Do not let them sit in soapy water, just scrub the leather up with a stiff brush rinse real well then let them further soak in cold water for a few hours until they are completely relaxed. If there are any stiff spots scrape(scud) them to help them pick up the water.
These rehydrated dry skins dont need to be salted, they are clean and can go straight into the pickle.

If I want to tan a fresh skin,i will flesh it,salt it for a couple days, flesh it again, then do the wash and scrub, and coldwater rinse/soak,then into the pickle.

Stirred them up a couple times today and the leather is looking white not seeing much fat on them. A few of the faces need touched up but nothing major…
I’m guessing that the leather oil is to be applied after tan has been completed & hide stretched out. Then just rub into leather?

Once the tan is done slicker as much water as you can out of the leather, then apply the leather lube on the skin.
After oiling, fold leather to leather and roll up the skin for a couple days to let the oil sweat into the skin.
Or if its an open skin you can just cover the oiled skin with plastic so it doesnt dry out too quickly before the oil completely strikes thru the skin.
