..yearling beaver in a pond/stream, damming the 2' wide stream?
The property owner, an elderly gentleman of 94, has lived on the site for 70 years and has never had a beaver there that he recalls.
First night a yearling (21 lbs), was caught. Three additional nights with no action, I pulled the traps.
I suspected a new pair of 2 yrs old, but just the one yearling.

On a side note, my new Comstock traps haven't met a snapping turtle they won't catch. Beavers-2, turtles-5.

Not uncommon, but 2yr old is usually the newbie.

I catch singles in the spring that have just showed up fairly often but they are usually closer to 30 lbs than 20. And there are usually fresh castor mounds in the vicinity as well.

I've caught singles before, 28-32 lbs. I guess it's possible it was a small 2 year old. Unusual events makes me question what's going on I guess.
