Client has bird nest with young in her chimney. She can't see them from top or bottom but hears them and has seen adult Bluejays. Any ideas for removal?

Be careful , could be chimney swifts . Protected.

Sometimes they sound like a motor intermittently humming.

If chimney swifts , wait until they move on for the season , then cap chimney.

I have found that birds in chimneys this time of year are almost always chimney swifts. About the only thing that you can leagally do is wait for them to leave. Folks often say that it sounds like a rattlesnake in the chimney. They will migrate shortly after the young can fly. Either you or the client should do a morning and evening chimney watch for adult birds going and returning from hunting. They usually come out just at sunset and return about the time bats are going out to hunt.

I've had people swear that they had bats flying in their chimneys but turned out to be swifts .

Barn owls, wood duck, bluebird, starlings, mockingbirds and swifts are the birds I've found in chimneys.

Coons, squirrels, bats are the mammals.

Ratsnakes and honey bees as well.

All native birds have protection so CYA on how you proceed.

Federal protected birds here. Swifts can be noisy, Best to tell them to wait until the young have fledged and sell them a chimney cap install.

By chance I absolutely did not mean anything illegal. I mean you explain in detail to the client and be able to show why. Then if they do something illegal you are covered.
