but what is the first gun your would grab in a "situation"

you can make up your own definition of "Situation" as it applies to your local and environment

the easy answer is the closest one for me
that is likely going to be the 9mm carried on me or the 223 not far away there is a limit to what you can keep easily accessible and ready to go quick.

when that situation is a cow that needs to be put down it is the 308 , I don't want them to suffer any more so make it quick.

for some people that situation will be a racket in the chicken coop so the answer might well be a 22lr with a light

what is your go-to.

Shotgun

I carry a 357 sig .. one side of the door going out has a 870 leaning against the wall, the other a 94 Winchester. So depending on what is going on outside I take whats needed. But when I hear something outside I generally just slide the door next to my bed open with one foot and let the dogs sort things out

Home defense if asleep in my room: Turkey gun beside my bed with TSS

Home defense if anywhere else in the house: .38’s scattered all over until I can get to the shotgun.

Home defense if the son is home across the street and it’s outside: Still the turkey gun and him with AR15

Home defense if he’s not home and outside: Thermal on the .308…they can run but they can’t hide.

Truck guns: .45, .22 revolver, .22 rifle, one of the AR’s and possibly the Thermal. Don’t think there’s a shotgun in there.

Carry: Ruger LCP in .380. That’s just to use to get back to the truck, then it’s game on.

Shotgun inside my house. I would say my 45 but years ago when a mentally challenged Odummy supporter tried to burn my Barn down I blew a leg off with my 10 gauge. I aimed low because my wifes Great Dane went high. He had a can of gas and was soaking down the side of my barn when the dogs started Barking. I call him an Odummy supporter because he voted that way and was voting for Hitlary when he saw my Trump flag on the side of the Barn along I-79. He should have kept driving.

Be careful, guys, of describing what and where exactly....it always bothers me that anyone on earth can see everything on the forum , except the NTA politics ....unless they are a member and are logged in. for me the shotgun is slow to load if your starting from loaded that changes things

I tried a bunch of buck shot and while it patterns great at 25 yards for me , by 50 I have no idea where half the pellets went which is not good.

no I don't expect a threat at 50+yards but I also don't like fliers.
it isn't a no it just isn't likely to be my first choice of go-to unless your driving by and say , hey were going to chase birds want to go in which case I am there.

Did I mention 8 cameras outside and 3 inside. Not counting all the neighbors cameras. I “think” I’m safe where I live and how I’m set up.
IF anyone is brave enough to try it, they are more than welcome. We (our surrounding neighbors) have all got together to discuss a “protest, home invasion, rioters, etc” we all have our fields of fire and all will come running if the need arises. We’ve had folks walk down the road and heard comments through the cameras like “holy $&$& look at all the cameras” Some of those folks we never see again. Were they scouting? Who knows, but apparently they didn’t like what they saw.

Now I can understand your statement when folks show their houses, inside and out, and their gun safe collection. If I was a criminal all I’d have to do is sign up on FB and pick which house I wanted to rob. My wife has shown me the inside and outside of some houses including where folks keep their stuff, lol.
