Had a great time in Canada at spring bear camp. 7 hunters in camp, 6 bears were taken. The 7th hunter missed his chance.
Great people and great memories!
I will go back!

What providence?

Getting old is a fatal mistake

Always looking for reloading componets

I know a beaver or two, because I've seen a beaver or two

We were just outside of Timmins Ontario. This was our second trip with Kammoe outfitters. The first time was in 2019 just before covid hit. We were on a fall hunt (end of August). BUT, they had a late spring that year and the blueberries were late coming up. When we were there on the fall hunt, there were blueberries everywhere!!! And I mean everywhere. There were 12 hunters in camp and only one person seen a bear or had a bait hit. If you've ever hunted anything you know it's very very hard to compete with mother nature. So this time we did a spring hunt.

Nice area.Lots of Bears.
Two guys from town have traplines down that way.
Louis has a camp on Laidlaw lake,Jean had his camp ransacked by a bear last week down there.
One of Jim Gibbs traplines is not far from there also.

JMHO a good outfit would of adjusted to the berries coming on. I blame the outfitters for not putting you on bear.
Spring bear is a different game all around.
Fall hunts over bait will work , but JMHO use the food source the bear are feeding at.
Many bear were taken out of grain fields also.

OhioW guess you dont know what the animal rights people did to the Ontario spring bear season for multiple years.

Good that you got a bear and was pleased with the results

Oh no doubt the animal rights zealots , hurt spring hunting , not just there but in many areas.

I did notice that Quebec , stopped the fall bear hunts.
Don't know if that's changed or not any more.
When I guided , I guided both spring and fall bear hunts.
Preferred the fall hunts , as there was more small game to hunt then.
Was a better hunt for the clients .
Fall hunts were easier to guide for.
Spring hunts , many clients would leave the stand way too early , and be waiting for me at the road.
Many times it was still day light.
I told them stay on the stand , I would come get them with a flashlight.
I couldn't get to all the stands at the end of shooting light/time.
Many were still standing on the road , sometimes a half mile closer to a main road .
The locals loved to carve into the stands , SOME TIMES THE HUNTER GETS THE BEAR , AND SOMETIMES THE BEAR GETS YOU !
LOL
