Squirrel season opens [Linked Image]

in Missouri the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend each year.
My eldest grandson turned 6 earlier this month. He and I thought that he was ready to pack a gun in the squirrel woods. Saturday he shot at 3 with a .410 and killed his first squirrel. He was super excited.
Sunday morning he wanted to shoot my squirrel rifle. With the help of a tripod he went 4 for 4! Now he’s super pumped!!
He couldn’t go this morning due to a family reunion on his dad’s side of the family. He wasn’t happy, especially when I sent him a picture of the limit that I killed by 8:30 lol.

I’m a firm believer in starting them on squirrels. Teaches them to use eyes and ears and so many stalking and woodsman skills.
He’s definitely my best potential outa 4 grandkids lol.

I think kids feel proud when family sits down for a meal in which they procured.

Nice work.

Awesome! I absolutely agree, kids should start out hunting squirrels and rabbits. It will absolutely make them a better woodsman. It's a pity today that so many kids 6-10 years old have shot several deer and turkeys which they are eager to tell you about but when you ask them how many squirrels and rabbits they shot last year they just give you a blank stare.

I know the legal limit is now 10, but I still consider a limit 6, cause after I've peeled that many it's enough for me!

Congrats clay

Way to go u guys, can you tell any taste difference over the grey's compared to the fox? Which do you prefer to hunt and to eat?

Nice Ruger 77-22... They're a real accurate and classic rimfire. I see it's an early one with the plastic buttplate. All the new ones have rubber recoil pads on them.

That's good to no, we only have fox squirrel here but may have to go south and get a mess of grey's this fall.
