I am thinking about putting a pintle hitch on my dump trailer but am not sure if it is the right thing to do. The pros that are bumbling about in my head are easier to secure against theft, easier to hook up to the truck and a more secure way of towing and folks won't want to borrow it.
Also from way back in the day I seem to recall in the fog that ( at least the German army version ) seem to be more loose and rattly and would as suck be a less smooth ride all around. But I don't know if the ones we had way back then were just worn out or a different kind to what is used here on construction equipment and such.
What does the wise pool of T man think about the matter ????

Everything heavy duty on the farm is pintle, the rest is ball. The heavy duty stuff would break ball hitches after a while

Anything over about 8,000 lbs. GVWR has a pintle, lighter stuff has ball hitches. I run my 10,000 lb. trailer up to camp regularly. there are no paved roads in my township, all dirt and some are pretty rough. You do get some clunk with the pintle but I just slow down a bit and deal with it.
Eh...wot?

I'm a supporter for pintle hitches.
