Of course it’s in the white oak family,. Nearly all white oaks have rounded lobes and red oaks have pointed lobes on their leaves. But there are many species of oak trees in the white oak family. I think that was the question.

Bur, chinkapin, swamp, chestnut and post oaks are all in the white oak family.

deer prefer them over Red Oaks. True, regarding acorns. As for the leaves and buds I'm not so sure

Thank you. It's beside another white oak but it's crowded. I thought maybe it was different since the leaves are slightly different.

I've heard them called Eastern White Oaks or Stave Oaks too.
