I need some help with a bear trap I got in a storage locker.

I know it was made after 1925 but I don't know when.

Should I clean it or leave it the way it is?

How much is it worth?
How is the best way to sell it?

I live in Oregon and don't know if there's a demand in my state.

Thanks
Paul

Don't clean it, removing the patina from it will decrease the value. Old traps shouldn't look shiny new. As for price, can't help you much there. It is a very collectable trap and I am sure you will get some offers on here. Otherwise if you come up with a price, listing it here on the trap shed would get it sold.

As others have said, do NOT clean it. Also, make this post on the "Trap Collectors Forum" on here. There are many honest and knowledgeable collectors on there and even a few from your area. They will help you out.

ATC 6 with cast teeth, 1925-1975. Hard to tell condition by the photos but they range from $1750 in good condition up to $2.5k in excellent condition per The Trap Collectors Guide. As stated, don't over clean it, make sure you retain the patina. You can wash it with a soft brush in hot soapy water to remove the dirt but if you plan to sell it, best to leave it as is. It would have to be looked over to see what condition it's actually in. As always, value depends on how bad someone wants it.
