We had an extended health care policy with them, it is cancelled once we received the woke letter policy.

what exactly is a 'woke letter policy'? what did it say?

Recent Policy Notice that we received today.

Bankers Life and Casualty Co. will not deny or limit coverage to any health service based on the fact that an individual's sex assigned at birth, gender identity, or recorded gender is different from the one to which such health service is ordinarily available. BLCC will not deny or limit coverage for a specific health service related to gender transition if such denial or limitation results in discriminating against a transgender individual.

So our premiums will be paying for or contributing for this stuff now it appears. Not our premiums any longer.

Wonder if they are compelled by any federal business relationship to take that position. Have no idea.

It might be law to do that.

Seems like, all a company has to do is follow through on their contractual agreement. No need to offer up this kind of position unless you have a motive. Pretty stupid move IMO. Then again, if they want to continue to do business in MN, it was probably a necessary addendum.

Probably just avoiding law suits.

Sure hope it wasn’t something you needed and was age banded. Replacing might cost a bundle.

I called the main company office today again to follow up on our policy cancellation request. They say now that it has to be a written or typed formal business request with the pertinent policy # and the insureds information, a letter of explanation requesting a formal cancellation request.

Signed and dated. I was told 5-7 days for them to view the cancellation request another 5-7 days for my premium refund to be sent out if it is approved.

Insurance is regulated at the state level by state commissioners, but federal nondiscriminatory laws apply.

But they don’t send a letter out on all the other rules and laws they have to follow. It’s BS, I’d drop em too, good for you!

You get it Trapset. They are throwing it in our faces once again. I dropped State farm last year for the same reason. Pretty soon we won't have many companies to choose from. Now I will have to ask the questions before I buy insurance again if they have adopted the " I identify as a man, woman or other policies " where our premiums are used to pay for transition surgery and other benefits. These people are truly nuts.

Yup, nuts fer sure! Hopefully some other company’s will start sending out letters saying stuff like “ we’ll stick to selling insurance, beer or shoes, etc, you decide what weddings you want to go to!” It would make it easier to know who to buy from.
