Looks to me that if you are Choctaw you can use snares and body grip traps up to 160 size on dry ground. Has anybody else read the Choctaw Game and Fish regulations and noticed that?

If that is the case, it seems a little racist that I can trap on the same public ground as somebody that’s got a Choctaw ID card. They can use snares and Conis up to 160 on dry ground. BUT, as a white guy I cannot….

Their ancestors must have used 160s, and they are just honoring their culture. Only a white supremacist would try to appropriate their culture.

Go buy a Choctaw card from someone who does not use it.

God please keep they 19 fallen UBB miners out of trouble up there.

I remember reading that Cherokees get free hunting licenses. I have no reason to look but I would be shocked if the Choctaws don't also get them.

Free licenses and special regulations are examples of more pandering to the Indians. We already gave them casinos and commodity cheese. We should be square.

As far as snares and conibears go, I officially self identify as Choctaw. This post is my big reveal.

I’m not so sure they do get free licenses, Blaine. I want to say there was a dust up between the trunks and Gov. Stitt and they no longer have the agreement they use to have.

They're always fighting each other over something. Thanks for the update.

Do the choctaws have a res? They own the res land if they do and can manage the game and hunt/fish stuff on that land. I would be surprised if the state of Ok. is giving out free licenses for the rest of the state based on race.

Choctaws do not have to purchase hunting/fishing/trapping licenses. For the time being they do still have to purchase land access permits for ODWC managed land where permits are required, that may change this year. For awhile they had different season dates and bag limits but they have since aligned those with ODWC regulations. There is no Choctaw reservation but basically all lands within the boundaries of the Choctaw nation fall under Choctaw nation rules for certified Choctaw members, thanks to the McGirth ruling. Maybe the snaring and body grip rules will turn into a positive and the ODWC will follow suit on legalizing them.
