I am beginning to not like family gatherings. I had to leave the room most of the day yesterday. My wife and kids conversation was nothing but their work and liberal politics. My oldest son is gay and his job is in politics. As you can imagine most family conversations turn to liberal political ideologies. My way of handling this is to calmly remove myself from the conversation and leave the room but that puts me away from the family gathering. Do any of you guys experience this?

Nope because I would disown the lot of them. But they've known that from the very beginning so they didn't turn out that way.

Walking away is letting them have their way. Your silence may be seen as affirmation in their beliefs.

What I like to do is play ignorant. Ask questions that put them in a bad place that exposes their flaws.

They say silence is violence.

I say silence is affirmation.

Polar opposites. And which side has the upper hand at the moment?

Should have dressed up in drag and played games with the kids!
Shut them down with facts they hate facts! Facts don't give a crap about feelings.
Usually number one rule at family gatherings is no politics!

I shut that down pretty quickly if they want to go for it then they will need to present their case but that never happens, mostly feelings and zero reality of that ideas impact. Daughter in law in Hmong so she has some wild ideas about immigration policies when Hmong folks are not on the radar even. All fear based very successful folks just afraid of what’s not chasing them for some reason.

I have a liberal sister and nephews. I can usually shut down the political stuff pretty fast with a few facts. Then the conversation goes to sports. LOL
My will is written to exclude any liberal relatives. They will not be using my money to fight against the things I believe in.

Not every discussion has to be a knock down political fight.

This country has generally lost its ability to listen, reason and compromise. Considering another point of view is not going to make you a liberal.

We like to discuss the current businesses and ideas to start new ones. That consumes most of the time we are together. I will note that those discussions seem to exclude the liberals in the group much like a political one would. lol

The few liberals in my family live 600 miles away. I dont see them real regular. When I do politics isnt usually a big conservation. One of my cousins was talking about the lion quota impacting his business and deer populations at our last reunion I told him the ban on foot traps except on private property was not doing deer populations any favors either. A couple cousins got the sucking on lemons look on their faces but didnt say anything. When we were all kids one of them told me she wasn't going to fish anymore cause she worried that fish families missed the ones she brought home. True story. I think some people are born to let emotions rather than logic determine everything they do. We all are ruled a little by emotion but I believe quite a few its close to 100% how decisions are made.

Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

I am good friends with a woman who is the chair of our local Democrat town committee. Very nice lady , very personable and a good person over all.

We never discuss politics.

If we did , it would go south quick. I'm glad we don't. I would hate to lose her as a friend. Discussing politics would not change her views or mine , so it is best to not go there.

This ^ is exactly what I would do too. The problem with communists is that they feel they are entitled to their opinion but conservatives are not. My family are all very political and we talk about it often. Hard not to in todays world. We are all on the same page. No way could i live with communists.

do unto others as you would have them do unto you

Guys we are long gone from the days of disagreeing on pension plans or tax rates. The left today is straight out of the pits of (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) who would destroy the family, the free market and all forms of liberty. They must be destroyed.

Yep my mom is one of those people. She's not a liberal... she's pretty apolitical... never having voted in her life until she registered to vote for the first time for Trump.

But every decision she makes is 100% emotion driven.
