I caught my personal Best spotted bass in a creek a couple days ago on a nightcrawler. It was 16 inches long and about 3 to 3.5 pounds. If you want to see me catch it I made a youtube video

Is that what we call a largemouth in Nebraska? Or a blackbass.

Yeah it's a spotted bass, mouth is to small to be a largemouth. Spotted bass mouth hinges in front of the eye largemouth hinges behind the eye.

Congratulations! That's a huge spotted bass. The girth on that fish is truly impressive. The relative weight is great.

Spotted bass are in the Micropterus or the so called black bass family with large mouth bass. They are a distinct species, though cross fertile with the other related species. That is a very good spotted bass. I've caught a very few longer, but none near that girth or weight. That fish is likely loaded with eggs.

Most of the bass in unstocked waters, near where I grew up, near Cincinnati, were spotted bass.

The official Oklahoma state record spotted bass weighed 8 pounds 2 ounces, was 23.5” long and was caught in a farm pond in 1958. I personally think it was mis-identified but it’s the official record anyway.
