Just cleaned up and put new insoles in my work boots. Decided they needed a mink oil treatment on the dry worn leather. That’s when I remembered a jar of skunk grease on my lure shelf. Yep I greased these boots up look as good as any mink oil job. All this mud and rain this spring, I’ll see if I found a new secrete.

Thanks LawDog

Glad it worked out for you was it the White paste or golden oil?

It’s a light yellow paste. Like soft butter. I have golden skunk oil also is a yellow liquid. Very thick at room temp

Might get the same soft hands but coons seem a little more bullhead greasy to me.

That yellow oil is a good wood finish. Try some on a self bow. I bet you like it. I have not tried it but I bet its good on round ball patches too.

Danny
I used some the skunk oil on ball patches last fall. I was messing with my muzzleloader before deer season. I just used it because I could have never shot the gun enough to really know what I'm doing. I never finished any wood with oil I made. Put it on one pair leather boots and on one leather holster.

Danny, I know, I render some for myself. It's just my dry sense of humor.

You can get a golden oil if you heat render the skunk fat with a low neutral odor or sun render for a slight taint to it.
